I love the fact that in places like China and India people will use rope and duct tape to strap things to their bikes which most people here in the states wouldn't even consider hauling with a trailer.
I've been going more and more away from using my car (especially since it died a couple weeks ago!) and I'm starting to realize exactly how much crap I can pile on my bike and still manage to ride around. The only real difficulty is that unlike China or India where most people don't have any majour hills to tackle in town, I live at the top of a bigass hill which makes it tough to attempt some of the really crazy loads.

India and China are both big countries with very diverse geography. While I live in a flat city, you only need to go a few hundred km to the SW to be at the base of the largest land bluff on earth, the top of it is Tibet. Not far from here are a few 7000m + peaks (just shy of 23,000 ft for the metrically challenged).

Some towns here are in China are built on the side of mountains.

India also has much bigger mountains than the U.S.

True. I didn't mean it to sound like they're both giant Kansas-like flat landscapes. Most of the pix/video of people riding in big cities or even moderate sized towns, at least what I've seen, has been mostly flat terrain (as opposed to the hills I'm used to riding around here.)
