Bicycle Mechanics - Left and Right side bike?

I have wondered if you can make a bicycle ( bmx ) with a drive on the left and right side, with 2 chains, sprokets, ect. If you cut the rims in half and welded two freespins together on a rim would it work? Thanx and ive heard of it before but I never really saw it ( it would be nice if anyones seen any pictures )

Alright, you don't cut or weld anything.

It is the DK Dual drive and it allows you to run a freewheel on the left side or right side of the hub as well as allowing you to run standard freewheels (16 tooth or larger) or downdrive sized freewheels (under 16 tooth). Then you have cranks that are LSD and RSD compatible. That is, you can put a sprocket on either side and there is a hole in the cranks to accept a sprocket locking bolt.

When I was a teenager some kids at my school had rear wheels with sprockets on both side - single sprocket fixed on one side and multi gear (5) freewheel on the other. However they only had one chain and flipped the wheel around depending on whether ther wanted gears or fixed. I dont see the point of two chains as it will only add weight and give no extra power - power comes from the legs.

www.danscomp.com - It is a DK Dual Drive - plan on spending around 50 bucks plus for the hub, another 100+ on LSD/RSD compatible cranks and another 30 bucks on freewheels and 10 bucks for another chain. That's about 200 bucks 'just for looks'. Have fun.

I have the crank and an extra chain. I just need the hub and a new free wheel.
