What's your inseam measurement???
Overall height is needed, but not the critical measurement.
Did you test ride it?
My advice is to test ride before you buy.

i wish i could, im planning to buy it on ebay
If you don't know how to size yourself for a bike don't buy on line.
well i *want* it plus there's no good LBS around here (and i got no car), so im stuck to internet.. here's the picture.. it doesn't look that small for me

You really can't tell for sure until you ride it. When I borrowed my boss's bike, I thought the shape looks odd and doubt I will fit it, but it turned out to be perfect. That bike may look ok to you now, but you really have to try it.

BTW, what's the frame size? 16 or 17 inch?
I have a 17" avalanche frame and I am about 5'6. I do think the frame is a tiny bit longer than I wanted. So if you get a 17 it MIGHT just be right for you.

Yes yes. Mine is a 01 Avalanche 1.0. It's for Judy XC fork, Avid mechanical disc, Deore shifters, Deore front and LX rear...... It's too good for what I need. Furthermore I only paid $600 new cus I bought it in 02.

The frame size is a 16" That seems a little small for a person 5'7" but i could be wrong.

I'm 5'9" and ride a 16" (30" inseam). 16" should be right.

That will be a steal if you can get it at that price!

That's 1/2 the price of the new one I looked at in-store. Heck ya that's a steal, but I'm sure it'll jump up a bit. $350 or less would be a good buy, IMO.
Got it today http://www.80sxchange.com/forums/images/smilies/banana.gif
The bike is perfect fit for me. And good price too! ($265 shipped)

Come on, drop the mud guards!!!
JohnnyTheFox, dunno, i have nothing to compare it to :) this is my, basically, first bike (good one).. a little "hard" frame though, my ass still hurts after my first ride (4 days ago) :p

Hell no! After i've rode in some dog sh1t and it was all over the bike..
And most importantly - my back. Thank god i got in it with rear wheel. I don't even want to imagine what would happend if it was front wheelhttp://forum.ixbt.com/puke.gif

Sigh, I just called my mom to send my 1.0 over to me... that's half way around the globe. She said no....
I bought it in 02, have been sitting there collecting dust since then cus I am never back. I WANT TO CRY!!!!!!!
She just told me to get another one.... but that's not the point!!!!

Now I can say RIP to my bike..... a bike like this not on the trail is as good as being thrashed away.
hey, i got another question.
I wanna buy some semi-slicks. I've found some, that are 26" X 2.35"
The "default" tire is 1.9", is that gonna be too big?
PS, here's the tire

The question is why a semi slick in 2.35".
The Maxxis is NOT intended for street use or commuting. It's a HEAVY tire. It's designed for HARDpack DH trails. Riding these for commuting or just around the 'hood will feel like you're riding through mashed potatoes. They are HEAVY and FEEL heavy.
This would be a better recommendation as it's only 2.0" and intended to roll fast. http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product.aspx?i=TI606A02
I guess the ? is why do you want semi-slicks? What type of riding are you intending?

sorry, forgot to mention - 80% in the city, but the rest 20% - offroad, dirt, mud and such :)

First mountain bike I had was 95% city and 5% offroad. I rode a mt bike cus I need to go up and down curbs and steps. I had semi-slicks too, very helpful. I like to ride on paint strips on the roads especially because they are the smoothest part of the road.

If 80% of your riding is "city", forget the High Roller. Unless you want a workout! Why not just ride with a backpack loaded with 50 lbs of books in it. Seriously, for the type of riding you'll be doing the High Roller is not the best choice.
I use a Michelin City Gripper. It's a 1.5" tire, and about the widest I would want for road use. I've seen some as thin as 1", but that's almost too thin.
I will add however that the City Gripper is on-road only. Even in loose sand or just a bit of gravel, it's sketchy.

I have a GT Avalanche 2.. although dont know if it is the same your talking about here, but i would`nt advice to buy the bike i have. i have some problems with my back and it is very unfomfortable for me. although it might just be my problem. what i would surely advice, is the same thing which wast told here already - take a good test ride before you buy a bike.
a11, you might want to check the date of the original post...It's 3.5 years old and a little late to advise on that purchase...
