I rode with a 13yr old kid this weekend, who put the hammer down as well as any cat 3, and has only been riding since February, and has been in ZERO endurance sports before this. He got 11th at the nationals crit this year at the bottom of his age group, 2nd overall for his age... all of that with <6 months of being on a bike. His dad just got him a coach too, so I'm pretty sure he's going to win nationals with ease next year.
Definitely a humbling experience...

It's always great to see talent like that. Scary.

He'll have a pro contract lined up before he turns 18. I just hope his dad and coach are smart enough to let him train at his own pace and don't burn him out on the sport prematurely.

I'm calling my parents, and telling them they suck.
There was a 12 or 13 or 14 yr old kid at a couple races I did in Georgia. He could climb like no other. It was ridicules. He had a powertap and I remember his power/weight on the climbs was absurd. Needless to say, he won a lot.

yah Doggus knows the local junior kids who are in our Tuesday night crits - they are 13 years old skinny little dudes but they are FAST and what's most annoying is they can sprint better than me.
but, I am older, meaner and about 50 lbs heavier so they ain't knocking me off any wheels.

one of them is my coaches son. did you see he got 10th in his first A race last week? Not fair I tell you, not fair at all. I suspect we'll be seeing big things from the GSTenzing juniors in a couple of years, from the sidelines of course.
