I was overhauling my winter/rain bike. When I was removing the bake pad holders on the rear caliper, the alloy spacer came out in 3 pieces (first pic) and I noticed the the caliper arm (pre 2000 Chorus) was cracked at the lowest point (second pic). Has anyone ever seen this? I've been riding Campy for 30 years and never had anything like this happen. Looks like it's another set of brakes for me.

Overtorquing the pads?

That'd be my guess, too.

I use a torque wrench and torque to Campy's spec. I currently have 5 Campy equipped bikes and this is the only time this has happened.

must have been the road salt or chlorine build up.

I had an older Campy NR front derailleur crack on me last year after 28 years of on and off use. It was the clamp and it just gave up. It hadn't been touched in many years. I bought a somewhat newer model and put it on it its place.
