Bengeboy and I escaped to rain today. Starting in Cle Elum we rode the Manastash Metric Century route. The weather was perfect for riding, here's Bengeboy on the road to Ellensburg.

We were both impressed with the route. Very scenic, full of eastern washington smells: sagebrush, dirt, and 'farm aromas'. Best of all, were the drivers! there weren't many but those we encountered were really cool, passing by us with ample room, even when we were caught riding 2 abreast. We stopped in Ellensberg at this house where we met a really tall dude who introduced us to his flashy wife.

While she distracted us, the tall dude tried to take off with my bike.

Lucky for me he was rather inflexible, unable to throw his leg over the top tube so I snatched it away from him and we took off.
We had a head wind nearly the whole way back to Cle Elum but we didn't mind, sure beats riding in the rain, doesn't it?

In summary, this was a great ride.

Thanks for posting the lovely (?) pics, Northbend. Nice ride.

Great ride - highly recommended - the Metric Century is coming up Oct. 2 for anyone who wants to do the ride w/support.

You passed me on Airport road just outside of Cle Elum; I was riding a recumbent.

Nice pics. It's a nice ride. Did it a few weeks ago with my wife. The wind was brutal, but it was still a good ride!

It's a great ride, and scenic as you say. This is our one big organized ride in Kittitas county so please join us. 40+ riders are registered (http://www.drier-ride.org) now. In fact, for anyone else wanting a preview we'll be riding the route on Sept 19th for our Ellensburg group ride - starts at 9:30am from the Ellensburg high school parking lot.

I just wanted to add for those of you who live on the "wet side" of the mountains (like me) that the scenery on t his loop is a really nice change of pace. Also, I think starting in Ellensburg, as this organized ride does, would mean that you get the head winds and the hills out of your way on the outbound loop - then you get the tail winds back to Ellensburg to finish the ride.

The hills aren't serious - unless you're trying to keep up with a mad man on a pink Paramount fixie.
