Framebuilders - Welding a New TopTube

I have a Iro Mark V and it was given to me after an accident. The Top tube has a dent that goes in about a half inch and its about 5-6 inches from the headtube. I want to replace the TopTube but i dont know ANYTHING about frame building. Is it a good idea to just find the correct length tube and decent chro steel and get a welder to weld it on? I mean, is there any special rules to this ( how to weld, what to use when welding, material, ect)? Like Anything at all that i should know ahead of time. thx in advance

Most welders will have problems with thin wall tubing. Check out a local frame builder first. Good luck

Really a half inch in? If not and there's no crease in it, then iron out the dent. Clean up with sanding and filler and repaint.

Replacing the tube calls for special knowledge and skills from beginning to end. Everything from tube selection to welding or brazing is bike specific. The only welders qualified for this job are probably all doing bikes already.

Is it the common handlebar dent caused by a crash ? Picture ? 1/2" deep literally or figuratively ?
Only let a real framebuilder work on it. No idea about pricing, but don't forget the repaint costs too ....
