Tiagra front der. spring broke yesterday, while getting ready to ride-still rode, just stuck it in middle cog on a triple. But it bugs me that the spring broke-this bike mainly is only ridden on weekends (not even every weekend), and probably has less than 500 miles on it. Is Tiagra that low-grade, or maybe just a defective der? Never had any shifting problems with it, and everything is well maintained on my bikes--bugging me that I can use my mtn bike for years without breaking one, and my road bike f.d. breaks with little use!

Probably faulty spring. 500 miles is pretty light for a front der.

Front derailleurs should last nearly forever and Tiagra is a decent quality group. Yours is an aberration and an obvious manufacturing defect. It should be replaced under warranty.
