I'm thinking about a tour from Boulder, CO (or somewhere not too far away) from Sep 12-20 and would prefer not to go solo this time. I'm a bit flexible with the dates and am open to route suggestions. I'm thinking about Trail Ridge, Gore Pass, Walden, maybe up to Elk Mountain, the Snowys, Cameron Pass.

Is there a better place to look for touring partners?

Tell us more about your intended touring style, such things as:

- Miles per day
- Where to sleep at night
- Where and what to eat
- Average speed

You could try the classifieds at www.crazyguyonabike.com. That's where ppl using that site post when looking for touring partners.

This is so dependent on road conditions. 80 km/day is a nice pace. Less on rough, long climbs; more on pavement on energetic days.

- Where to sleep at night

Camping wherever. I look for fairly concealed places.

- Where and what to eat

Oh, I like eating. There won't be a lot of stores on this route so we'll carry a few days of food to get to the next spot. I haven't decided whether to bring a stove or not.

- Average speed

I don't have a very good estimate. Last time I toured with a computer was about 10 years ago in Africa. I seem to recall 10-20 km/hr.

I'm pretty flexible. I looked at a map this morning. I'm thinking maybe Big Thompson Canyon, Trail Ridge, Granby, Willow Creek Pass, Cameron Pass, Woods Landing, Albany, Keystone, west across the Snowys, east across the Snowys via Snowy Range Pass, Laramie, and a beeline back to Boulder. Looks like a casual 8 days to me.

Any takers?

I'd really like to join you, but unfortunately it's not going to fit my schedule this year. Good luck. I'm sure you'll have a blast even if you go solo. Don't let lack of a partner stop you.

For the record, here's what I did.

Rode north from Boulder to Carter Lake, Big Thompson Canyon, Glen Haven, Estes Park, and up Fall River Road over Fall River Pass. Down the west side over Milner Pass, pass the Grand Lake turnoff, and turn right on Stillwater Pass Road. Climb Stillwater Pass (seemed hard), hit the pavement a little below (5 miles?) Willow Creek Pass, and climb Willow Creek Pass. Cross the east end of North Park via Old Homestead and Gould, climb Cameron Pass and descend ~5 miles. Turn left onto the Big Laramie River Road and take that all the way to Woods Landing. Up to Albany, west across the Snowys via Rob Roy Reservoir and French Creek. Take the pavement east over Snowy Range Pass, descend to Centennial, and ride on to Laramie. To Ft. Collins via Tie Siding and back to Boulder.

8 days, 7 named passes, ~425 miles according to Google. A friend rode out with me on a cold, soggy Saturday morning to the Carter Lake turnoff, then turned (as planned) back to Boulder.

Highlights include Big Thompson Canyon-Glen Haven-Fall River Road, the stretch between Willow Creek Pass and Cameron Pass, Big Laramie River Road from the reservoir to Woods Landing, the pavement scenic byway east across the Snowys, and 287 between Laramie and Ft. Collins.

The only other loaded tourer I met also rode a LHT.
