Hi everyone! I just purchased this bike last night to serve as my commuter. I haven't even cleaned it up yet. I am trying to determine the year and model. The only decals say Cannondale, on the top tube, and the only numbers are stamped in the bottom bracket, AA00256. It has braze-ons for the rear rack. Anybody have any ideas? Are these components original?

Thanks for the help!

Looks like early 80's..due to non-index shifting & Deore rear derailleur w/deer's head logo. Not sure of model. Is there a model number on top tube by head tube? Components are most likely original, although the rear derailleur was possibly Suntour on original. On the whole, the bike looks like it's in very good shape. The Rigida Model #58 rims are double walled and quite strong, they were used on tandems for a number of years...

if it was bought as a "frame & fork" only back in the day then it will not have a model number and it will only have a serial. Call cannondale with the serial number and they will most likely be able to tell you everything you want to know.

I know this because Tyler knows this.

No model number on the top tube. Since it has the braze-ons for the rack, I am assuming it is an ST model...

That is very nice to know about those rims. I wasn't sure how tough they were. Since I will be commuting, jumping curbs, etc. I was thinking the rims would be a good thing to replace. Guess I'll see how it goes for the time being.

I think I got a decent deal on it, $100.

No road rim will stand up over time to curb jumping, the skinny tire offers little protection...it's actually harder on a rim than off road riding on your road bike...at least dirt surfaces have some cushioning qualities, cement has none.

Good point. I'll keep my curb jumping to an emergency manuver. :)

I have recently acquired a Cannondale hardtail mountain bike.

It is very much like the 1990 or 1991 SM700's in the catalogs but mine has a Pepperoni fork and not a Ritchey like the catalog bikes. No model number decals of course, that would be too obvious.

I do have an Odyssey alloy seatpost/tire pump combo which was only used for a couple of years. Later bikes have chromoly seat posts and 32 hole hubs.

Earlier bikes have BioPace rings and several gruppo differences from mine.

The whole gruppo is Deore LX including pedals, correct for an SM700 of 1990 or 1991 vintage.

None of the bikes in the catalog are the color of mine - very dark green - almost black.
