I am currently shopping for a road bike and looking at a Trek 1.2 & a Specialized Allez Sport. First I went onsite to check their manufacture websites and found the trek is $1029CAD MSRP and the allez sports is $1020USD MSRP.

Today I went to a lbs and asked them about those two bikes' price. Surprisingly they quoted me the trek about $900 (this one seems fine) but the Allez Sport costs about $1470!!

I was really shocked about the difference from a lbs price and a MSRP. Is it always the case when shopping a road bike in Canada here or just that shop I went to quoted me a crazy high price tag?

Don't know about the Trek but I just bought the Allez Triple about a month ago. It was reg 1049 and it was on sale at 20% less.

I assumed you're saying the entry level Allez triple, but not Allez 'Sport' triple correct? May I know where did you get it? Your price seems reasonable.

I think it is the sport triple, at least according to the colour scheme and components. It is the black and grey one, with the Sora sti shifters, Sora front and Tiagra rears.
I bought it at the lbs in Woodstock, Pedal Power. I wanted to get back into a bit of riding after 20 years absence and I just wanted an entry level bike. Woodstock had their sidewalk days on and that was the only bike they had that fit me. I upgraded to spd pedals and with taxes, the total bill was still under a grand.

I got the trek 1.2 just yesterday at bayview cycle, it was like $908 or something like that with tax.

The Allez Sport's 105 components, amongst other upgrades, which makes it more expensive than the triple posted above.

My cousin purchased an '09 this summer for 1350+tax. It was listed at 1700, but the owner of the store gives me discounts since I've known him a long time.

I'm in Ottawa, so with the smaller population, recreational items tend to be marked up a bit more. Bargain on the 1400 price tag, but it seems to be within range.

The LBS pricing on Specialized bikes is driven by Specialized Canada. My '09 Tarmac Comp was listed at 2799 when I purchased it (for much less), and a few months after the shop owner told me Specialized called and all the Tarmacs (and others) had increased significantly. My bike now retailed 2999.

Happy shopping!

Cheers,
Roby!
