Folding Bikes - Dahon Curve 349 Wheel

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Thinking about getting another 2008 Curve SL (yeah I know, again) and convert it into a fixie. However, I was wondering if ERTO 349 wheels will fit as this will provide a perfect gearing compared to 305 wheels. Also are there any bag options that will work like the brompton for shopping? I tried a brompton last week and went grocery shopping. It was awesome as I only had to fold and roll the bike without having to dismount the bag. I want to fix a Curve SL as this will be lighter and cheaper than a titanium brompton.
A 305mm wheel with Big Apple will be 305+50=355mm. A 349mm wheel with 28mm tyre will be 405mm. So another inch on top of the Big Appled wheel. Would be tight... Don't forget the brakes, you will have to use road style calipers, the v-brakes won't work as the rim will be offset from the brakes. Not sure a Curve can take calipers, especially at the back...
Excellent. Thanks jur. However you lost me in the 349 + 28 not = 405 but 377. The stelvio are the only tires with this height right? I recall seeing a hole for rear caliper brakes, but that will not be necessary as I want to have it as a fixie with front brake only. Time to visit a lbs with my friend's brompton. By the way the swift's aluminum stem riser has been working flawless. I also polished it and inserted a screw as a replacement for the spring pin. Did you get yours anodized?

Not sure I'm following this.
The tire goes all the way around, so you have to count it twice. So, in theory:
305 + (2 x 50) = 405
349 + (2 x 28) = 405
I doubt they will not be exactly the same in reality, but the difference shouldn't be much; I'll hazard a guess that 349 wheels will fit into the Curve's frame. Whether the brakes will fit, of course, is another question.

Paul Components makes brakes for converting from 406 -> 451. Should work here too.
If you end up with the same effective diameter anyway, given differences in tire sizes needed to make it fit, what's the point of switching rim sizes? You have the exact same gear ratio, and plenty of headache to make it work. Just stick with 305 and Big Apples.

In practice, I believe that the 349 wheel/tire is bigger.

the 50 or 28 refer to the width of the tire. This number is not directly implicated in effective diameter of the wheel.

Did you get the 349's to fit in your Dahon Curve? I gave my Xootr to a son like friend to commute to University. So I'm starting over with tire first, my favs Scorcher Kevlar, only in 349 instead of 406 as on my ex-Xoot. I was thinking short cranks on a new Xootr frame and 349's to shrink the dissassembled pack size, but I like the 172.5 stroke. So I'm also hunting a new frame. The Dahons take a Thudbuster, so that is also why I was thinking a Curve. Any ideas on frames that take the 349's stock? Thanks all, for your time.
