Northern California - To the Fairfield cyclist who stopped and lent a hand, thanks!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife and four girlfriends were out riding on Lopes Rd this past Sunday when they needed roadside assistance. On the 30 mile round trip from Benicia to the Valley Cafe, they had two flats. Each knew a step or two, how to change a tube but none have ever actually done the job. So thanks Fairfield cyclist for helping them get on their way. Shame on me for not teaching her the basics.

It wasn't me, but I will say last time I had a flat while riding alone 4 separate riders asked if i needed assistance. It's good to see.

I get lots of offers when I flat. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman or if it's out of genuine helpfulness; it's still gratifying. I appreciate our community.

I always ask to make sure everything is good in their world minus the flat. They ALWAYS decline assistance. Fair enough.
2 quick stories.
I asked one dude. Then I noticed who he was. Freddy Rodriguez... my local hero. I asked him if he was Freddy and he said yes. I'm glad to remind him of his name and feeling like an ass with nothing else to add to the conversation.
Other time was 2 women on the side of Pinehurst with one in a squat position right on the side of the road. Asked them if everything was ok and this was the reply. "She's just peeing, maybe you should just keep riding along." Don't mind if I do. There's a zillion trees she could squat behind though.

I experienced this also. Very few riders pass without making sure I've got what I need.
I always ask if others need help or a tool. I'm waiting for the day a CO2 only person needs help and can watch them try to figure out how my pump works.

Last Saturday, while ride Palomares Rd, my friend and I stopped to help a guy on a mountain bike who didn't have patches, pump, or spare tube. He was also riding solo. We got him on his way and he was appreciative.

I always ask "Do you have everything you need?" as I think that a girl asking a guy "Do you need help?" is not always well received. ;)

  Guys are generally worse for not bothering to find any privacy though.

I say the same thing...and if they say no, I stop and try to help.

I've passed out tubes and let people use my pump when they didn't have one.
Sadly, noone had a RD hanger to help me out today, though most people inquired.

I guess this would be one advantage to riding somewhere you know you'll see other cyclists - help when you may need it.
Horray, for Solano County cyclists!
