Mountain Biking - 24" future bike = the death of the 29'er

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Recently...in the mountains of Rwanda, there have been some significant R&D breakthrough's regarding 24" all terrain bicycle technology. They have discovered that in changing from a spoked 29" wheel to an organic 24" non-spoked wheel resulted in a more supple over-all ride. So far, there has been zero lateral flex in the new design, yet the linear compliance of the design is second to none when traversing technical terrain. Mass production is slated for 2012 through one of the major bicycle manufacturers based in the United States, though we will be seeing prototypes on the race course as early as fall of 2009. A small number of spy photos have been circulated on the internet, though only one official photo (http://www.singletracks.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/wooden-bike-race2.jpg)exists that we know of with any credibility.

We can all agree that the 29" full suspension bike is a dying breed.

As long as I can't do tricks, given that I'm an adult, I'm all for this new 24" organic-wheeled bike.
Awesome! An organic composite.

Looks like traction could be an issue. And termites.

^The termites, over time... are the source of your traction.
its all about being organic and earth friendly.

This is a pretty cool homegrown thing in Africa. You can see a lot of it on the web.
Kinda like Rwanda's version of the fixie culture.

No. The Rwandan bikes are more practical and better looking than fixies. Also note, the gentleman's pants were actually designed to be worn by a man.

Agreed. Also, these Rwandan riders aren't hipsters or poseurs, they're the real deal.

I bet that oblong wheel causes some serious rolling resistance!!! :)
I don't like 29'' or 24''.
How about we settle for something in the middle. Say, like 26'' wheels.

Note the custom cut tire grooves for downhill blue groove traction.

Hasn't there been some small talk in the MTB trade recently about another size, like 27" or 650b?
You probably know, Ed, you're so up-to-the-minute.

They do seem well prepared for the groomed tracks, that most racers call mountain biking.
