Your idea of a book is good. I think "Kama Sutra" would be a great choice.

Actually, just get her something and tell her she likes it. I'm a firm believer in ruling relationships with an iron fist. I'm a busy man and I don't have time to worry about what women want. Just Say'in!

One step at a time boss....I don't think this couple is sexually advanced enough for Couchenetics just yet. But we do sell "Kama Sutra" in the church gift shop....er, I mean church support store. I've PM'd him and instructed him to buy it there, and not on Amazon.

Actually there's a handy K.S. book in all the church pews for easy reference. We like to liven things up at meetings ...

If you know her interests pretty well then I would say a couple of good books are the ticket. Books are personally my favorite gift to give and receive.

+1

I'd suggest an album from her favorite photographer.

This ought to work (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhwbxEfy7fg) with your budget constraints.

Take her out for a romantic dinner at the Shadowbrook.

Dinner and a movie. By dinner I don't mean friggin McDonalds, something reasonably nice. Not the cheapskate theatre either, and buy popcorn/whatever. This will cost more than $50 more than likely.

Next time, plan ahead.

If you do go to McDonalds, at least let her yell into the speaker at the drive thru, so they get her order right.

+1 Day before her birthday is not the time to be trying to figure this stuff out. That being said.

It isn't about the money, but about the thoughtfulness of the gift. In fact, I think some of the best gifts cost nothing at all. Get her something meaningful to your relationship. Better yet, do something for her that she doesn't expect, makes her feel exceptionally special and shows her how much you care for her.

Oh, and dinner and a movie is cliche'. Yes, it can be nice, but creativity is generally more generously rewarded. ;)

So what did you get her?
Did she break up with you for gettin her a nice refreshing glass of donkey punch?
Did her X giver her a better gift than you?
Did she find out you weren't boyfreind material enough to come up with a gift for her yourself and you had to turn to Foo for assistance?
