Mountain Biking - Stuck in pedals, bloody knee and elbow

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I got a pair of Sidi Dominator's recently and I am having trouble getting out of my pedals. I have Crank Brother Candy SLs. My old shoes were fine (strap busted, had to replace) with these pedals. Just wondering if others have had trouble with this setup and what you did to make the escape easier. I have thought about shimming, or maybe boring (sp?) out the plastic next to the cleats. I hate to do the latter to a new pair of shoes.

Turn the pedal's retention spring down, take your shoe by hand and check how it fits into the pedal. Is there any interference from the shoe tread? Maybe the tread hits the pedal axle?
You may need to trim away a bit of the tread if it interferes . I have had to do this on a few shoe/pedal combinations.
Those pedals don't have adjustable retention springs. Its possible you switched the cleats.. depending on which side you install them they are either 15 or 20 degree release angle.
