Does anyone have suggestions on the best connecting roads from the north end of the Lakeshore path to the North Shore Channel Trail? I tried Wilson and Lawrence and I gave up, fearing for my life with all the bike-unfriendly traffic and construction. Thanks in advance.

You can take Thorndale west to North Greenview Ave. Take North Greenview Ave to Pratt, go west one block to Ashland Ave and continue north. Then take North Rogers Ave and travel NE until you come to Sheridan. You will soon be in Evanston.
I recommend the Channel Bike Path. It's not as direct, but you bypass both Rogers Park and Evanston, see: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/il/chicago/329124766066046069

This shows one route north that stays in the city and follows the lakefront in Evanston. The return route uses the Channel bike path. A stop sign marks the North Shore trail.

I've done it once going from Botanic Garden to North Pier following the same route. Do not remember any bad traffic..

Look at this (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3182532) route. It's main feature is Berwyn. A low traffic one-way street all the way from Sheridan to the North Shore Channel trail. when you hit the UP-North Metra line, go straight thruough the pedestrian tunnel. I live in that area, and if you are concerned about traffic, this is the way to go
