Upgrading from a Giant Cypress DX (aka "Zoxemobile 1.0") thanks to some end of year clearance at the LBS.

2009 Bianchi Imola. Went there to ride some other bikes and as such things happen, I came home with this one instead.

This is as she looked fresh from the store. Will be adding a Cateye Strada Cadence and moving my undear-seat tote to complete her.

Good end of year deal and free spd pedals. Maybe now I can keep up with Mrs. Zoxe. :thumb:

I likes Bianchi! Steel, alum?........Just make sure to ditch the dork disc once you make sure the rear derailleur limit screws are all dialed in!:D

Thanks Beanz!

She's a steel frame. The bottom tube looks to be fairly aggressively manipulated (hard to see in the pic) but spec sheet (http://www.bianchiusa.com/09-bicycles/09-road-steel/09-steel-imola.html) says all steel.

err.....?? .what's a "dork disc", and do I need one ? (I'm kinda dorky myself) :)

It's the plastic disc between the cassette and spokes. It prevents the chain from ripping out the spokes if you ever ride the chain over the largest cog.

Why would you remove it? Too be cool. Why would you keep it? To save your spokes in case of the unmentionable. That bike probably cannot lose too many spokes before it's non-ridable.

If you do take it out, keep it and have them put it back on after you take it back to the LBS to have a half dozen or so spokes replaced.

If you notice, I suggested removal after you verify that the limit screws operate properly. Remove it because it gets very dirty , slides around and makes a terrible noise.

If the bike losses one spoke, it's unrideable.

Wow, I have over 50,000 miles on 4 bikes that I own. My wife about 25,000 on her 4 bikes. Not once has the chain dove nto the spokes as I set the limit screws properly and maintain them well.

But on the other hand, if the rider does not know how to shift properly and doesn't know anything about proper maintenance it can be a problem. Also, good shifitng habits helps. If a rider doesn't know better than to shift the front into the small ring while running the chain on the tall cog, keep the dork disc on! ;)

You can always wait to ditch the dork disc when it gets faded and crackly...as for now, it's barely noticeable...you should get plenty of happy road use on this finely-crafted machine of yours....kudos :thumb:

goo to see the new retro steel offering findnig an accepting market. I really like both Bianch's new bike and the Specialzed retro Allez.

To be honest, I was initially smitten with the Surly LHT but for various reasons had gone to the store to ride a Specialized Allez. I wasn't familiar with Bianchi's line before we went to the store, and was overjoyed to find another steel frame bike with some of the other features I was after.

Model year clearance pricing and some free spd pedals made it a done deal. Was a little impulsive, but over the year I've learned not to fight my gut feelings. :)

oooo I like it! steel frames are just so much sleeker and sexxier than big tube aluminum frames.

as for the dork disc, Only my new hybrid has one, because I havnt taken the rear wheel off yet, soon though as it will need wheel true to be checked and tensioned. Once I had my mtb shove the chain into the spokes. The derailleur limit screws were set properly, but a stick smashed it over, and I was on the road at the time :( $32 i think it was to have 3 spokes replaced and trued/tensioned. If you want to take it off, make sure your derailleur is set up proper.
