View Full Version : New grips and end caps?

This may be a stupid question. I took the grips off of my bike and these grips had a closed end on them. I installed the new grips that had an open end on the bike and the end caps that they supplied didn't seem to fit. I measured my handlebars and they measured 5/8", so I went to the bike shop thinking that I had a smaller diameter handlebar. They sold me (after measuring) 5/8" end plugs for the handlebar. I got home and tried to install these, and they also don't seem to fit. I tried hammering the damn things in, and they still won't go in.

So, my dumb questions are:

1.) How do you install these things??
2.) Do you even use them, and if not, what do you do? Leave an open end on your handlebar exposed?
3.) What is a good grip that is fairly thick with closed ends?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no pics. The grips are Lizardskin North Shores. They came with plastic plugs that have 3 "fins."

You should just be able to jam those things in there. If you have a cheap bar with a thick wall it can be a chore. It can be done however. The key is to make sure the plugs are even as they are inserted. If you get them woppy jawed it isn't going to work....

Nice grips, I just installed a pair of the black North Shores on my bosses bike. They should go in, remember they're meant to be put in and stay in. Keep at it, they'll go in.

Just whack them in, takes a bit of doing, oh and once there on they wont come off again in a hurry!
