Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So as the title suggests, me and my wife are going to boston and staying overnight in the Copley Square area. (going to a sox night game) i ride alot, but my wife doesnt really, although we both have bikes. is there any good riding (easy to find) near that area that we should bring our bikes with us? or just skip it? i live in the country of maine, so don't own a cable bike lock, so the destination would have to be one where we wouldnt really be leaving the bikes alone.....once back, we'd keep them in the back or our SUV....

If for some reason you're in town on Sept 27, there's a city wide bike event called hub on wheels... should be safe, but costs $$ to sign up. Riding in the city in general is awesome but dangerous. sundays are less dangerous.
Maybe check out the sticky in this regional forum called Northeast quick reference links... there's a link to Boston area rides. If you had more specific questions after that, it would be easier for people to give ride suggestions!
one fun short ride is to castle island.

I'm a commuter from Kenmore Square, about a mile from Copley Square and two blocks from Fenway Park. What kind of riding are you planning to do? I have in the past posted some suggestions for road riding for distances of greater than about 20 miles at least. For easy riding, two bikepaths are very close and a third not too far away from Copley. The Esplanade bike path would probably be the preferred one, for a distance of about 10 miles one way. The hotel could easily direct you there. The Southwest corridor path is adjacent to Copley but more of a commuter rather than than scenic path. If you portage your bikes by car, there are great areas to ride, but with the hassle of driving out of the city.

Whenever I advise cycling in Boston, I recommend not doing any downtown sightseeing by bike. The city is made for walking, just watching out for cars would be too distracting from all the sights, and then there's the hassle of what to do with the bike when you want to visit something. The subway will get you around pretty expeditiously as well. Please tell us of your experiences. :D

I usually park my car at the commons and proceed the rest of the time by bike. Boston is very flat and you can cover a lot of ground.

Cambridge is extremely bike friendly with clearly marked bike lanes and a plethora of other cyclists. MIT has rows upon rows of bike racks. They even have a bike stand to fix your bike!

but theft IS a big problem.. I would definitely lock up the bikes and keep checking that they are okay..

You're coming from Maine to the city? I'd spend my time enjoying Boston without a bike!

You can walk from the Back Bay to downtown with plenty to see and do.
