Bob Stapleton from Team Columbia HTC released the following statement-

"Mark withdraws with deep regret from the Tour of Missouri. As he has stated its' one of his favorite events and also for team Columbia HTC.

Mark has been fighting an infection since traveling to the USA which has spread to his lungs. He has had a long and successful season and it is a team priority that his general health be protected. He is on antibiotics and will rest here in Missouri for a few days prior to returning to Europe.

We expect the same wide open racing from team Columbia HTC and the entire field for the remaining stages that we enjoyed last year.

Thank you for you constant support."

Meh, Farrar withdrew from the Vuelta today too, they're probably both looking at the World Championships I'd guess.

Highly doubtful, it's a climbers course this year.

Thanks for being the bearer of bad news. I was just about to get on the tour of missouri site when I saw this thread. This is disappointing because I am going on Sunday and he is who I was looking forward to seeing. Anyway I hope he gets better soon. At least I can still see Jens and George, as long as nothing happens to them!

I am going on Sunday too and I feel the same way tigershark. I was really looking forward to Cav but I am really excited to see Jens. He is by far my favorite rider of all time and I am glad he is back to racing.

Tour of Georgia is another good one

A few years back that Armstrong guy tried to start a tour of Texas. Sadly it fell through.

Good, I'm sick and tired of texas! Did you know that Alaska is bigger than Texas?

they should make the tour of Utah one, i lived in Utah for 2 years, and some of the climbs they went on this year are freakishly tough. powder mountain access road and old snow basin are like 15 to 20 percent...

I was looking forward to seeing Cav also. I plan on watching on the Summit St hill then going back to Grand and watch them come back the other way.

Well, I'm not a big cheerleader for Texas. On the other hand, I've been to Kansas and there was no there there.

ouch.

Got to see Cav being interviewed to day at the start/finish line. Good guy and funny, he even made a reference to him having a reputation of having a big mouth. Also saw VDV right after that. Next to Christian Cav looks like the Hulk.

nice, i wish i would have known the start/finish is the place to be BEFORE the race starts. It sounds like everyone is more relaxed before the race and more willing to talk to people and sign autographs. None the less I had a great time today watching from Summit St. for 4 laps and then making it down to about the 250m til the finish. I got some nice shots of Michael Barry and I almost had some sweet shots of Zabriskie but they were out of focus. It's crazy how fast they go by even on the hills, I never had time to tell who was who. I ended up buying a Columbia hat and the dvd about George Hincapie, which is really good btw. What a great time! Oh and I also got some pictures of Thor on the podium along with Zabriskie and everyone's favorite....JENS! Anyway I'll post them tomorrow sometime.
