I have been out of Mtb racing for quite a few years, been racing road, and used to be there was a big regulation difference between NORBA and USAC. Alot of the regs seem to have come together and I am wondering if they are one in the same now or what?
Granted it has been awhile, so I could look like an idiot but I am curious.
NORBA got absorbed by USA Cycling. USAC kept it around a while as a named division; but about 4 or 5 years ago dropped the NORBA moniker entirely. USAC continues to treat MTB as the red-headed stepchild and, as of this year, has changed the Beginner/Sport/Expert/Semi-Pro/Pro classifications to the more road-like Cats: Cat 3, 2, 1, Pro. Semi-pro is gone. S-Ps had to chose to either go full Pro or drop back to Cat 1/Expert.

I don't even want to hear their rationale for the new cats. It's a stab in the back of MTB racers/riders, at least at the more grassroots level.

^^ I think they wanted mountainbiking translated into a language they could understand :rolleyes:.

In cyclocross Cat 4/Beginner means you've been racing for 11 years and are a Cat 1 road racer and you are hoping no one knows who you are when you race cross.
