This is going to sound stupid, but I thought I should ask it here where most people are swimming much longer distances than me.

When I swim I seem to "belch or burp" after about 30 minutes of swimming. It doesn't matter if I eat something before I leave to go swimming, or if I go to the pool with nothing in my stomach. I try to burp while my head is under water, so I don't scare off the other swimmers. :)

I was swimming a lot, and then had some injuries and was out of everything for a while. I am back to mile swims or more, but the feeling of needing to burp is driving me nuts for some reason.

IS this normal?

No, I am not swallowing the pool water.

Probably swallowing too much air. I do the same thing and have not found a solution.

Now that I never thought of. That was too simple. I will just keep with my underwater pressure relief.

Well..........

To elaborate a bit the issue can get worse. While after 30 minute swims I am just very burpy, the problem exacerbates as the swims get longer. Eventually I turn painfully gassy as the burps don't keep up with the air.

Ive helped it a bit by always breathing in thru my mouth and out thru my nose but it still happens.

It doesn't seem to get worse for me after an hour of swimming it is maybe the same or less than after 30 minutes. But, each day is probably a little different as to when it starts. I start my swims around 5:30 a.m. as that is the only time it fits in my schedule currently.
