Hi, I'm not sure if this fits in the C&V forum but I'd like to know the value of a 2001 Specialized Allez. It's the Festina colors model with Shimano Ultegra groupset and Shimano WHR-535 wheelset. I don't have pictures sorry, just want an evaluation. Thank you

Litle new for C&V, but I love the Festina paintjob, and of course the PED history adds to it. But in general, a good (for the seller) sales price for an 8 year old bike in well kept condition would be about 50% of new, and that's usually obtainable only if you throw in your extra goodies, like clipless pedals, a pump, helmet, etc.

Go to bikepedia, look up the original MSRP, and discount it at least 50% to 60% of that MSRP. Your modern bike is still in the depreciation stage unfortunately.

Also it depends on your market. Around here a nice bike yours will need to be discounted even more due to the lack of buyers at that pricepoint. I would hate to tell you what I paid for a 2003 Colnago, which sat on my local Craigs List for over a week without selling before I finally looked at it.

I did a little research for you because I have a 99 Allez Sport frame that I built with Ultegra. I have over $600 in it and although it's a nice looking bike, I doubt that I could sell it for that in the SF Bay Area.

I couldn't find an exact match on Bikepedia to the one you described. The Allez comes in several models and the price can vary a lot. I wasn't familiar with the Festina paint scheme, but according to another thread, it is mostly yellow. Based on that I looked for an 01 yellow Allez on Bikepedia. The only Ultegra group was on the Allez Comp listed for $2055, but it was white. The only yellow one was the Allez Sport listed for $1399, but it had a 105 group. If we split the difference and say it was roughly $1700 new and used the 50% depreciation rule described above, that would leave $850. That seems high to me. IMHO, an 01 Allez with Ultegra might get $600-$700 on a good day in LA or the Bay Area.

I assume it is the Allez Comp, which listed at $2055. Using 40% of that figure would be about $800, which I think is a stretch for this bike. More like a $600 bike around here. Takes the right buyer, as for $600, someone would be gettting a really nice bike at less than the price of an entry level new road bike.

The 50% target might work on a cheaper bike, like an entry level brifter bike (many sold for around $600 back in 2001).

I picked up the bike in good shape yesterday for 400.

It has the Allez Comp specs (http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2001&Brand=Specialized&Model=Allez+A1+Comp&Type=bike) with full Ultegra components, 53/39 crankset. The only thing that does match the bikepedia listing is the fork which is alu instead of carbon.

Sounds like you did very well! Any brifter bike around here will get at least $300, for a really basic brifter model. Yours is Ultegra (pretty high end) with good wheels, etc., which of course would rate much better than a SORA/Tiagra bike. And Specialized brand is well respected as well.

And consider your price was half of what an entry level road bike sells for at any bike shop!

A Specialized Allez Comp, much like that, 9-sp Ultegra, just sold on Raleigh CL for $400. I had an appt to pick it up today if it hadn't sold, but it did. I didn't quibble about the price, and the seller said 2 other buyers didn't, either, so $400 is well in line.

Festina colors should add some value....at least to me it would.

Orig. Price is $4,299 with campy record. Maybe less with ultegra. I think that is a steal if it's leas than $1000.... Doubt it will sell less than $2000 with components as listed in bikepedia.
