Be sure to roll some C4 in there. :notamused:
Having watched as lung cancer took the life of a relative, I will never smoke again. Smoked quite a bit in my 20s, so I am not laying blame, being holier than thou, etc. Just stating fact.

I quit on my birthday in 2000. I have promised myself I will not smoke again until I'm 70, if I want to at that time.
No judgement here, as I found smoking very pleasant. But, as jsharr said, I watched my grandfather die from cancer, his was throat cancer, from many years of smoking. I don't want that to happen to me, and I certainly don't want my family to have to watch that.
I'm using anti-cancer additives on my creations... don't worry guys
If I get sick, at least this way I won't be so broke and will be able to afford my medications. :D

I used to be a member of a Church the heavily suggested that you smoke. The founder told us that it beat cancer. Believe me, the people in the Church smoke alot.

umm....how they gonna do that? There's too many compounds in tobacco that have DNA altering capabilites. There's even some radioactive compounds in there (but that's probably true about almost all plant material).
Those machines are great - can make a nice cig of whatever you like to smoke.

Chantix is believed to cause some pretty crazy stuff in some people. It may well have cost Carter Albrecht, guitarist for Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, his life. Just saying.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carter_Albrecht
"Albrecht became intoxicated. Rathbone drove him to her house, and they both took their dose of Chantix (http://www.bikeforums.net/wiki/Chantix). A short while later, Albrecht began speaking incoherently, broke a drinking glass on a table, and hit Rathbone several times, something he had never done before."
quoted from above Wiki page
Read the package info--Do not drink alcohol. Couldn't it be the alcohol, and not the Chantix that cost him his life???
It well could, but many smokers drink and many drinkers smoke and almost every med out there says do not take with alcohol, etc. It was not the alcohol alone, as he had been drinking for years. The Chantix was a new addition and has been linked to other such deaths. Did not know him personally, but know those who did know Carter well.
His family has filed suit against Pfizer / Chantix.

Smoking = fail.
I wish I didn't have to ride my stupid bike because then I could take up smoking. Smoking makes you look really cool, like Marlon Brando or a cowboy. It makes you a good role model for your kids, especially when you wake up in the morning hacking while you look for your lighter. I really can't really think of any better habits to have.

Hey. Hey. Hey. Why did this turn into a bashing thread?
Back in the 70s my parents used to roll their own cigs. They also rolled a lot of joints too. But I vaguely remember the little contraption they used to roll their "whatevers."
Man, they smoke a lot of pot. I mean A Lot of pot.
I have seen those old rolling machines. I also recall watching an older relative roll his own cigarettes when I was a little kid way back in the 60's. He however rolled by hand. Had a bag of tobacco, papers and that was it.

His family has filed suit against Pfizer / Chantix.
Smoked for 44 years. 2.5 packs a day at the end. Did the Chantix thing and drank like a fish with it (oddly enough it helped me NOT think about smoking), but only after I edged into it. Tried one drink, then two until I knew I could handle it.
Why do we always have to sue. Can't anyone take personal responsibility for themselves? I don't say suing isn't a valid option in some circumstances but I think people jump to it way too fast too frequently.
Not preaching because like I said, it took me 44 years to stop however; now that in 4 days I will have 2 years and 4 months behind me I can't be happier about it. Not that I don't miss it. I too loved it but it was just getting too stupid. Got to be where I was hacking 24/7 and when I caught myself blaming it on allergies I knew I had to do something. That plus I was living in fear of the day they were going to tell me I had to quit or die. I knew I would never be able to handle the pressure of HAVING to quit and quiting so I figure I'd take it one depressing thing at a time.
And yep. Still miss it but like being off of it more than miss it.

Not supporting the suit against Pfizer. Congrats on quitting. Glad Chantix worked for you and many others. I quit smoking more years ago than I can count. Quit dipping snuff in 1999. Started that in 1978 or so. Did both without medicinal aid. I was just relating what I knew about Chantix from a semi personal basis.

I was in an Oracle training class a few weeks ago and there was a dude in the class from Texas. He had a tupperware full of tobacco and a bunch of papers with him. That stuff took up a lot of room in his carry-on. Obviously very dedicated.

The problem with that type of thinking is that ONE person's experience does not validate or invalidate whether something works.
If you look on the TV, EVERY drug is bad (according to the lawyers). The game is, find a "problem", create a "class action" and THEN recruit people. It is far easier for the pharmaceutical co to settle than it is to fight. The lawyers make gobs of cash, and the individuals still have their problem.
In today's legal climate, one of the single most effective medications in the treatment of coronary artery disease would not exist. Asprin is the drug. No-one sues Bayer for creating acetasalacytic acid in the early 1900's because it has been off patent forever! The problem is it is a "bad" drug. It causes ulcers, low platelet counts and when overdosed (which is real easy), some real nasty metabolic problems. BUT, if taken as directed is a lifesaver!
Ok, my rant is over, and sorry for the threadjack!

I think we live in an overlitigious society. I just heard some really bad stuff about Chantix and posted without thinking. There is a risk to everything in life and we all need to take responsibilities for our actions.

you, chasing an ambulance? Only if it has fried brains in it.
fried brains have been linked to crispy mad cow disease. I am part of a class action suit against myself in regards to this matter.

I used to joke that smoking was a good way for me to kill time while I waited for folks to catch up to me on climbs... except it was true... and it irked people like you would not believe.
They'd come to the top looking like they were gonna hack up a lung and I'd already have sparked one up.
My doctor said he could not believe I smoked as smokers just aren't this healthy but that I should quit anyways.
Not smoking is so much better and now I only indulge on rare occasions... these occasions usually involve good scotch and a nice little cigar and damn but I miss my pipe.
Cigs are $10.00 a pack here now.. besides the health issues it is also an economic one as a pack a day habit (that was me) is worth nearly $4000.00 a year.
I figure with not driving and not smoking I am up 12k a year.

RubenX - the pic you need to show is of your awesome cigarette case for holding all the homerolls.
... you do have an awesome cigarette case, don't you?
(I rolled my own for years. Drum tobacco, mostly. Had a really great engraved case for 'em, too.)

No man... not yet. I just started this. I got the cheapo injector, some tubes and some tobacco. They didn't have cases at my local shop but I'm gonna get some cool ones online. I also think my local shop prices for the tobacco and kinda high (even tho is more than 50% cheaper than buying packs), I've seen cheaper tobacco online... a lot cheaper. I paid 20 bucks for 3 ounces... is great, but I have to try the cheaper stuff... maybe is great too.
One thing I already learned... a menthol blend on menthol filter tubes is way too much menthol.
I imagine there are lots of stuff out there to add/modify the blends... like stuff to give them cinnamon or vanilla flavors. I need to do more research. Kinda hard to find the stuff tho, for every legit tobacco selling site you get over 20 quit smoking adds.
I guess this is how it feels when you make your own beer... beat the taxes and stick it to the man!

They have electronic cigarettes whose only ingredient is nicotine and they claim they are cancerless. plus you can smoke them indoors (they use vapor instead of smoke) and they are supposed to taste like real cigarettes.
*just what I have read. i do not smoke.

I quit over seven years ago, after smoking for forty-six years. Now, I can't imagine ever smoking again. Repulsive, stinky, nasty habit. And I used to enjoy it, and thought I could never quit!
something about sitting in a doctors waiting room, and watching a little old lady with parkinsons or something similar use one of the ciggy machines to roll a few for later. Don't know if that should be amusing or not.
