Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Looking more seriously now at an Orbea Volata. Does anybody on this forum ride Orbea? Racers especially.
Thanks,
Z
Thanks in advance for any ifno.

this summer i bought a 2004 orbea lobular carbon frame. while i wont race on it until
next spring, i've put 2K km on it in training. short and simple, the frame is great. just in
terms of looks, the orbea's rock with the lack of stickers and the beautiful paint jobs.
the handling is great and the bike screams uphill. the ride of the locular carbon (mix of
starship aluminum and carbon stays) is definitely harsher than some all carbon framesets.
but it is very stiff and i don't feel too abused after 150km in the saddle. i can't comment on
the fork since i built mine up with a True Temper Q-sub fork.
another nice thing about orbea is that they have a lifetime warranty.

I have a Starship Carbon Frameset. I'm very pleased with it. The frame is Alm with carbon seat and chain stays. I have not had my first race yet, but I'm hoping to get there soon. I love the bike. I also love the paint job. I have not seen a better paint job on any production frame. I have the blue/black with a white flame accent. Very nice.

Yeah, I train and race with it for 2 seasons. I have a 2002 Altec Carbon Force. Great frame. Not too expensive. No shimmering at high speed, 48mph+. Very stable and responsive. Adding a pair of Zipp wheels you feel like you can pedal forever, if you have the legs. The only issue I have with it is the carbon seat stay and the alu drop outs. The bound came loose. Maybe it was caused by the time I rode it on the trainer???? Not sure since I don't usually go very hard with the frame on the trainer. I wasn't sure about the warranty issue since I bought it from Ebay and so I used some 2 tons epoxy to fix it. It worked. I have done many hilling training and several hilly races after the fix and it is still holding. I only later found out that my LBS can send my frame for a warranty frame replacement (same model or higher one + some cash).

I'm on a 2003.5 XLR8R, AL frame, carbon stays, full carbon fork. As others have said, the build quality and finish make it a real head-turner. I originally spec'd the bike with full Ultegra triple, but I recently pimped it out with an FSA compact carbon crankset, Truvativ BB, Dura-Ace derailleurs and cassette and a new Deda carbon seatpost and now it's a demon, especially when the road turns up.
Orbea's lifetime warranty was a major selling point for me, as well as the factory in Spain is actually owned by the workers, so you know they have a vested interest in every bike that goes out the door.

Thanks...took it out for some climbing and hard riding today...I don't know if I really need a triple but the bike performed like one of those bikes you forget about...the ride is easy and even thought the Volata is entry level, it moved like a much better bike. I'm still reaching for the down tube for every shift...
A couple of light go-fast components were on the bike as well and seemed to help, but the geometry and handling was impressive...a very easy bike to ride...and amazing at climbing.
Looks like I answered my own question...lol
Thanks everybody,
Z
