Road Cycling - Just Bought another bike CAAD9. Bye Bye Money!

Yeah, I've heard too many good things about these bikes and wanted a bike I can race next year and not be terrified of breaking in a crash. Saw this one on ebay and figured it was a fairly good deal. I plan on selling the components that are currently on it and replacing them with Rival or Force. That'll have to wait til next year gets closer though. Anyway, got it for $799 shipped. It's a 2009 CAAD9-7. I'll post pics in a bit. The bike is basically brand new...supposedly has 1 mile on it. Should be able to make a few hundred bucks off the components and have a fairly nice race bike for a reasonable price when all is said and done.

Added pics for you. They're just the ones from ebay so I'll hopefully get some better ones once I get the bike at my house.

So, should I put Rival on it or Force? I was thinking I'd do a mix of the two but I dunno. Who's got opinions?

Just to add some spice to this thread, here is a pic I just took of Miss America (Katy Stam) boarding one of my airline's flights in STL. Glad this wasn't my flight. I'm sure I would have made a fool of myself somehow.

'09 Rival or '10 Force, you really can't go wrong either way.

On my 2009 CAAD 9.7 - I immediately removed all the Sora/Tiagra components, heavy wheelset and cranks/brakes...to sell them as NEW take-offs, and netted $350 on eBay.

I then took that $350 and scored a used Ultegra 9-speed gruppo for $300/installed and also replaced the C3 bars for a Carbon Bontrager Blade for another $50. I spent $325 for used set of Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels and Continental GP4000s tires...and now I got myself a sub-17lb road rocket all for under $1000 additional outlay since purchase(paid $850).

Bye-bye money...but HELLO *****-EATING GRIN!!!

Very nice Dilberto! I plan to do pretty much the same thing. I'm not sure how much the seatpost weighs so I might replace that and the handlebars. I have a Toupe saddle but not in the right color so hopefully I can break even on trading for a black one instead of the white one I have currently. I priced out some Rival stuff on ebay and it looks like I can pretty much get an entire group for under $600. Subtract the $300ish from selling the current components and I think I've got a hell of a bike for a great price. My only concern now is that I'm going to like this more than my Felt...but who knows. I suppose if that happens, I can take the Force from the Felt and put it on the CAAD9 and put the Rival on the Felt. Who knows, I have many months of hibernating before I need to worry about any of this. I'm thinking it might be time to sell my OCR as well. I never use it and could use the money to put toward this bike. Bah, I'm just all excited!

By the way Dilberto, I really think your bike would look awesome with white tape and saddle and maybe some blue tires. I know white is so overdone these days but with the white lettering on the bike, I think it'd be sweet. Either way, you have an awesome bike and built it cheap. Nice work and thanks for sharing how you built her up.

I sometimes wish you would do the same. Your CAAD9 is honestly my favorite that I've seen thus far. I'm thinking mine will look pretty stealthy with the dark Rival components on it so that'll be kinda cool.

Yummy. I think I see some dirt on that bar tape in the second pic. That means you're getting some saddle time in. Still loving it? Does Fizik make a red/white saddle? The red/white Toupe would be perfect for your bike I think but I guess it really doesn't matter much since you hardly ever see the saddle anyway.

Yeah Fizik makes a white saddle with a red stripe down the middle, but I think the all white looks classy. Also, that tape is going to be changed soon for some white Fizik Microtex tape so that I can wash it. Its staying white.

What about the rest of us with CAAD9s sporting Rival? You are making my bike sad. :(

The Cannondale C2 seatpost is not that heavy, at 248g. Being a weight weenie, I weighed EVERY component off the CAAD 9. I would go with white- but the lettering on my CAAD is actually silver.

I like caads now.

I also bought the CAAD9-7 and switched a few things. I loved the BBQ black and figured that upgrading parts and ebaying the leftovers would help.

it's a thread about bikes, though. actually, CAAD specific, so i guess the answer is no.
