Slowly on my way home..
Sundays are good to get internet connectivity, activity is slow on the ship. Yesterday has to be one of the funnier highlights for me on this trip. An announcement over the 1MC (that the public address system.) "The Ronald Reagan Strike Group Drag Race will commence in 30 minutes". This raises an eye brow... Up to the flag bridge, and look over the starboard side... There are the USS Mustin, USS Benfold and USS Camden. Two Arliegh Burke gasturbine destroyers (one is FLT one and one is FLT two) and 4 boiler replinishment ship... So, they all line up abreast of eachother at at the given moment, off they go. Funny to be sure, I mean a drag race, right? The destroyers take off like shots from a gun, a 300 foot metal ship kicking up a 8 foot rooster tale. Camden pulls away slowly.. But the Ronald Reagn builds up speeds and out guns them all a mile or so later the huge Carrier is a ship length ahead..
What does this have to do with fixed gears other than I'm on it? Well the destoyers are viarable pitched propellers... so they can spin the shaft as fast in prep and simply apply pitch as needed: Much as you would on a geared bike. The carrier? Fixed propellars, so it has to build up speed slowly... But once moving, stand fast..
Well, ok, it's poor analogy. Just outside of Lima Peru, nearer to the Glapagos than anything else. Somewhat directly south of Houston Texas you could say.. On my way home to California.
I've caught bits and pieces of email.. the world of BF changes, people on the up and people on the down. Some have left, some have come.. Hopefully the spirit is stil here. Hope all is well and see you all.. well I've only actually met one of you...
Anyway.. been listening to the pixies little bit or a lot at the time.. can't wait until I get off the life cycle.. back onto something a little more fun or not. Should be less than two weeks away. The Governator will be coming on board, along with Nancy Reagan and associated Dignataries. So, surely they'll be hiding me out of sight or place tape over my mouth. Either way.. home ward bound.. As Mayo said once "Ride hard B!tch".
