i have an old ciocc cross and the posts are only about 56mm center to center so brakes totally dont work well.. anyone have a suggestion for a brake that would?

I assume you are trying to use a modern "v-brake pad" brake. I had the same problem and ended up using a old XT canti set fro the parts bin. The newer brakes are designed to have at least 7cm center to center.

it's canti.. but modern.. Ill try that.. its an older bike so it makes sense that it needs older brakes.

yeah i'd look for something with post type pads. a little more adjustability there.
