Recumbent - Questions about RANS Stratus (used)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have found a RANS Stratus on Craigslist. Seems pricey at $1000 (OBO).
Questions: What year is a Stratus described as "emerald green?" The pics make it look very dark green.
What should I watch out for in a used Stratus? What is a current price on a used Stratus of this same year?
Link to pic? What size wheels? 8-speed? 9-speed? 7-speed???? etc.
I don't remember reading/hearing about common 'trouble spots' unique to the Stratus.
$1000 for a nice Stratus could be a good deal if it is truly 'nice'.

PLus the seller has told me he is the second owner, the bike is a 2005 and comes with fenders and computer. Thanks.
Addendum: Claims bike is in perfect condition, Standard Stratus, 27 speed, T-Bar steering and kickstand.
Pics look OK.
$600 cheaper than a new Stratus LE.
Is it worth the asking price to you? Haggling is always an option.
He has e-mailed me asking stating he is open to an offer as he needs room in his garage.
Mebbe I will offer 500$ and see if he bites. . .
I have a 2004-05 emerald green XL, great colour, nice ride
this bike is older possibly 2001-02
doesn't have rad loc clamp and its bar system is the
older style (more tiller) still a great ride
I wouldn't go much more than $700

I sold my 2006 Emerald Green Stratus for $950 in March of this year. which included, computer with cadence, 48/39/26 front chain rings, kickstand, and bike bag. This is an 05 you are looking at and I would want to know the type of mileage is on it. Lift the bike up on its rear wheel and look at the under carriage of the bike to see if its been maintained. Also check the chain for wear. You are talking $75-100 for new chain alone.

My Screamer is Emerald Green, it's a difficult color to patch up. RANS touchup paint stands out like a sore thumb.
See the bike in person. Check it for crash marks on the derailleur, seat frame and fabric.
There are two kinds of seat clamps. The solid metal U-clamp is the older model. The part-plastic RADLOC is on the newer bikes... I prefer the RADLOC.
I would consider $800 a fair price, unless the bike is damaged in some way.
Thank you all for the info. This bike sounded good, but seemed high to me for a basic Stratus.

As a rider of a 2008 Stratus LE, you will find that you made a good choice. The Stratus LE to my mind anyway, has the most bang for the buck of any recumbent on the market. Good hunting!!!

No, the V-Rex has more bang/buck, especially as it costs less than a Stratus.:innocent:

How about the V-Rex has the most bang/buck for a short wheelbase recumbent and the Stratus LE the most bang/buck for a LWB 'bent?
:-)

No argument here.
