I'll be doing my first race this year on a bike with the shift cables on top of the top tube, but I've started to notice CX bikes with the shift cables running under the frame, like a road bike.
For East Coast racing where there will be mud, does it really matter? Or is the top tube placement just a bit of old style CX mythology about keeping the drive train clean?
