A friend and I are considering doing this. I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any experiences doing this?

Any links would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Hit the NorCal forum and ask there. We'll fill your dance card.

OK So Cal from San Diego to No Cal the Oregon border?

I have ridden from LA to San Francisco and from SF to LA. It's easier South than North which is why most people do it that way.

Take a look at the Adventure Cycling Association. They have lots of good advice, routes and maps.

supposedly the prevailing winds blow from north to south. i didn't notice any difference with the wind, but i prefer to be on the ocean side of the road

I suggest riding north of Bakersfield and East of Fresno. Great ride not to far clear lakes!!
