Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - What is my Ross worth?

I have owned a Ross Tom Kellogg Signature for a long time and I am wondering what this bike may be worth. The serial number on the bottom bracket is 200 2412 and the second line is 09 81 082. This one has Tom's signature in gold paint on the left chainstay. As for components, it drives with early-90's era Shimano 600 and stops with DiaCompe brakes.
Do I happen to be a lucky one with a bonafide Kellogg frame? Any idea what it might be worth? Thanks for the help!

You should post this in the Classic and Vintage "What is my Bike Worth?" forum.

And everyone will want pictures. Lots of good pictures of the bottom bracket, serial numbers, head tube, seat tube cluster, drive side, non drive side, dropouts, decals. Components not so much.

+1 $3.50 without pictures. Bike values really depend greatly on condition and components. Often even if someone knows your exact model, the components have been changed out over the years and no longer resemble OEM specs.

$3.50? I'll give him $5 for it, right now.

I think it's the real deal. Campy drops, 531. Headset is some cheapie replacement abomination, and given some of the rust, I'd wanna look inside the BB and frame if possible as a buyer. Certainly check post and stem for stuckedness.

Value? I dunno... something like that, your best bet for value is to put it up on ebuy. Don't start it at 99 cents-- you'll be besieged with emails and questions from folks who think they'll get it for a buck and a quarter. Since I've seen the pics, I'll gladly double the previous top five dollar offer.

+1 You have something good there. You do need to do something about the rust first to get maximum value.

I would think that the f/f would bring somewhere between $300- $500+.

Strip it, it's worth more as a frame/fork. The components would actually lessen the value when attached to the frame, or at least keep the price down.

If it fits, keep it. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer vintage steel frame.

How would I go about addressing the few nicks and scratches that hold the surface rust? Ah, the joys of living a couple miles from the Atlantic Ocean and its darn salt air... Would it be a better option to have it completely stripped and repainted? If that route were taken, how could I keep it "original" with the Ross decal set? And then there is Tom's signature on there, too. So many questions, so few answers in my head!
(Oh, and there is no rust inside the BB (thankfully!) as I put a new Shimano 600 BB not long back.)

Repaint would kill the collector's value, unless you sent it to Spectrum Cycles.

Repaint a perfectly good - if not outstandingly well-kept - original paint job because of a few extremely minor nicks?

Kurt, I think the OP is fairly ignorant of what the bike is and how vintage bikes are valued, which is why he posted here.

I think he was asking a legitimate question, and sincerely looking for advice from someone who *may* know a bit about the bike.

Indeed - though I can't help feeling yippy whenever anyone considers repainting anything in such a minty, original state - (pun not intended ;)).

That's a great bike you have there, i'm glad you posted so many photos. I agree with OFG estimate but I would say his 500.00 price was closer to my guess. I sold a Ross signature series that was not half as nice, and definitely not built by Tom Kellogg. I got 250.00 easily for mine and your bike is easily way nicer.

My guesstimate is 500.00.... and that headset IS an abomination. It looks like the same thing my wife's huffy wears.

Mkeller, your wife's Huffy must be better than the one my wife is riding. Just realized that her headset may actually be better than mine. I feel a midnight swap coming on.

You folks may all be swaying my decision away from placing her (the bicycle, not my wife!) on the auction block. Guess I never realized how nice a frame I owned.

Here is the Ross signature bike that I sold for 250.00, I overhauled it to raise the value. This is more what the headset should look like.

I'd just get a decent match on the paint-- take the frame into a hobby store and by some testor's or whatever. The big area, on the bottom bracket shell, is out of view anyhoo.
