Northeast - Are there bicycle groups that bike together? Like a bike club?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm a bit new to the bicycle thing :P I love bicycling and was curious are there any groups that bicycle together? I've heard of bike clubs but am not really sure what they do. I bike for leisure, not too into the idea of racing just quite yet. Are there clubs for those who bike for leisure?
I live in the Queens, NY area.

Is this a trick question?

No... I'm really curious if there are any. I'm used to bicycling in the West Coast with my friends, but I don't really know the trails of NYC. I figured a Bicycle club (leisurely one) is a good way for me to get to know the trails of NYC.
...I think I should let everyone know that I'm new to bicycling culture lol

Don't know about Connecticut. But San Diego county has about a half dozen clubs.. They range from touring , leisure groups to racers. I doubt Connecticut is any different. Ask about potential clubs at the bike shop..

grab a fixed gear and i'm sure you'll find a "group" to ride leisurely with, maybe a bar spin or a swervy skid here n there. plus you get to wear skinny jeans and have tiny handlebars such that holding them creates a V formation with your arms for a more aero position.

I have to ask - where did you get Connecticut from?

Um so it' either that's really new bicycle lingo or...sarcasm? lol
What kind of bike do you ride? My club has mostly road bikes but there are folks that do mountain biking too. You could grab a train to Bethpage and meet us and try it out.
