i searched for a while and couldnt find a straight answer.
Kryptonites Fahgettaboudit mini u-lock: DOES it in fact lock easily around rim AND parking meter?
would you reccomend it?
any drawbacks?

this may be true, but i would still like to know

i have one, it fits snugly around a parking meeter and around the seat tube and rear wheel (with no space for prying). it is heavy, and they dont make a holder for it, but it is sooooo thick you can rest pretty easily.

it is not as small as the evolution mini, and not as big as the standard nyc u lock

I'm not sure about the Kryptonite Mini, but I have a Onguard Pitbull Mini, and the fit is really snug. I have a front trispoke, and can't even lock around it- have to use a cable...:(

I'd say the Trispoke is > or = to the rest of the bike. :D

it'll fit around the seatpost, rim and parking meter if your bike uses: low profile rim, 23~25mm tire and the wheel is tucked in close to the seatpost.

if you try this on a CX/touring type frame, it won't work.

i can fit mine around my downtube, front wheel(deep v), and parking SIGN, not a meter. its realllly snug but i can make it. I imagine with a standard low box section rim you could fit it around a meter.

i also carry a thick 4 ft cable to get my other wheel.

and btw, it gets to the point with lock thickness where it's probably easier for the thief to cut through the parking sign/meter easier than the lock, and if that's the case and your bike is worth several thousand dollars, don't even bother with a lock and just bring your bike inside everywhere. because this lock is a ***** to carry around

Just Sheldon lock it. I have the same lock, and would get really frustrated trying to fit the rim, seat tube and whatever I was locking to. And that would leave the front wheel completely vulnerable unless I carried another lock around. As heavy as that fuggeddaboutit is, **** carrying another lock for the front wheel. Then I learned the right way to lock my bike. With the Sheldon locking system, I pop my front wheel off and lock it up with the rear wheel and the stationary object. It's like two locks in one!

+1 on the Sheldon Lock technique. This is my preferred method with my Evo mini.

i have the long version of the Evo. makes locking up a mountain bike easier, but kinda overkill for road/track bike style bikes.

It's definitely heavy and I've had no issues finding places to lock my bike (parking meters are fine). I also use the Sheldon method.
