In the opening theme for Agatha Cristie's "Miss Marple" series w/Joan Hickson, is the theme being played by an Oboe or Clarinet? Sometimes I can distinguish between the two instruments and sometimes it's a bit more difficult. I was curious which it is and thought I'd check on foo - my default place to go for answers to random questions.

I've never heard the Miss Marple theme so I can't answer directly, but I will offer that imho in a very abstract sense (at least) Prokofiev hit the nail on the head when he characterized the oboe as a duck and the clarinet as a cat.
Not sure if that will help you next time you're watching Miss Marple...

It depends on what you want to reed into it.

Yeah. That's the theme. (just what I was watching last night in fact).
Foo is awesome!
I was suspecting it was an Oboe because it sounds a bit more squeaky and nasal than a clarinet but wasn't sure...but this seems to answer it. thanks.
