I don't know how many of you would be interested in this, I know a few that are. I have been building a new gym over the last year including the room itself.
I finally finished it off today putting up the last of the mirrors.

Nice.

What is the bar for on the top of the rack?

That is for doing Squats, I keep it up all the way if I'm not using it & it is handy to keep my change out plates on.

That is a beautiful gym. Did you build the Smith machine yourself?

And I have to ask: Does your wife lift weights too?

Very nice!!! Did you install glass mirrors, or did you go with mylar mirrors (I think the company that makes them is mirrorlite). My wife installed them in her studio, and you can lift a 4' x 8' mylar mirror with your pinky. The other benefit is that it reduced her liability in case someone crashed into the mirror.

Nice. Digging the chains, got any bands? I'm loving the bands for box squats now a days. I still don't understand why that bar with the manta ray is near the ceiling? How do you get it down?

The room is 16 X 30, the floor is 3/4 horse stall mat. I got a pretty good deal at my feed & grain store.

The mirrors are 1/4" glass so an accident with them would be a disaster.

All the equipment was bought new over time. I have retired & replaced many pieces. I have learned what I like to work with. The newest piece is the K2 universal & that is about 3 years old now

I have assembles & moved this stuff many times but I did not fabricate any of it. All of it was purchased over time. It was set up in a different room, the cardio stuff was all over the house.

My wife uses the treadmill but that is about it. Wt lifting is a personal journey & not for everyone. I am more of a fitness enthusiast, a body sculptor rather than a power lifter or body builder. I am almost 50 so my days of maintaining a body building form are behind me.

The squat bar with the Manta-ray ( that I love by the way ) is at the top of the power rack out of the way so I don't walk into it. When I use it I unload some of the wt to the bench bar and lower the bar. The blocks slide up & down on the power rack. I never Bench & Squat on the same day so what ever 1 I'm not doing hold the change out plates for what I am working with.

I have use resistance bands over the years but I prefer free wts. & cable machines. The chain covers added resistance as you lift similar to the effect you you get out of bands on vertical moves anyway. I gave most of my bands to my Road Drivers

The beer fridge is in the pool house LOL

Ahh that makes sense now. great set up.:thumb: The bands I'm talking about I use in conjuction with free weights, kind of the opposite of chains. Extra resistance at the top of the squat. I've always struggled coming out of the hole ,so at the bottom they aren't adding resistance. Anyways, I don't want to bore eveyone here. I'm like you, 41 and my heavy days are long in the past. I dropped a lot of the wt. off the bar & went from parallel squats to full squats for full range of motion. I try to keep my leg work light because my quads get too big and my cloths don't fit.

Damn dude - much respect to you. I would guess your age to be in the mid 30s.

Aside from working out, do you have any health/fitness tips on staying/looking young? how often do you workout per week? how much time? judging by your equipment, you have the leisure of working out 'whenever' you feel like it which must be really convenient.

Your to kind but that I am afraid is Genetics. Eating right and exercising will help and keep you healthy. Lots of water and moisturize your skin & stay out of the sun. I lift 4 to 5 days a week depending on what my body tells me,1 muscle group a week about an hour on wts. Cardio is on my bike.

how much is the monthly fee to join ur gym? haha

Timber_8
09-15-09, 05:31 PM
To be honest I think it is cheaper to join a public gym these days. I am sure I have 10 grand into this gym. That is a lot of years at a public gym & that doesn't even include the equipment that I no longer have that some of this stuff has replaced. I originally started working out @ home because I drove a semi truck for a living and could only workout in the early morning. I always workout around 4 to 5 am & have for years. You also have to have space for it & most people don't, for me this has always been the best option an I have never regretted it. One thing though Commercial equipment you use in a public gym is not always the best stuff for a home gym

VERY impressive. And unlike a lot of things that cost 10 grand, well worth it in my opinion.

I used to have a personal rock climbing gym. I hate pulling on weights, but I could go out and trash myself bouldering every day and still enjoy it. When we moved to Costa Rica, it was about the only thing I miss.

Just the aerobics part. I've been cross dressing for years so that was assumed.
