What would be the widest tire you could comfortably mount on the 09 models of the Specialized Roubaix, Allez, and Sequoia?

With most standard road brake calipers, you can't fit anything larger than 700x28 past the brake pads, even if the frame allows for more clearance...

yet another reason road calipers suck. But, I think they do make ones that accept wider tires. If I remember right the Allez I had, the frame at least, would have taken a bit wider tires, maybe 32? but the brakes, prob not.

My sirrus will likely handle 35's easily as is, probably bigger, but...I like the 28s so far. Comfy and fast enough.

I run 28 Ultra gatorskins on my '08 Sequoia Elite. The brakes are the limiting factor on it also. The frame would likely take 32's.

I had a 32mm tire installed on my Sirrus. Specialized says they've designed it for 28's max. Question: Is the 32mm tire causing my spokes to break??

Really great tires, heftier than typical 28s. I see no reason going fatter. Armadillos seem even fatter. 28's a nominal size, brands & models vary. For instance older 28s weren't as substantial, skinwalls in particular.

Some Sirrus' come with 32s as OEM.

Just put 700x25cc Armadillos on my Allez, (came stock with 700x23cc Mondo which are thin and flat prone tires... even if they are advertised as having a flak jacket). The LBS tech stated that he would not recommend going any wider than 28cc on the Allez. The increased width increases rolling resistance to a small degree, but this is not really an issue unless you intend to race competitively.

The thing about the Armadillos is that the side walls are constructed thick and heavily reinforced. With the wire bead ones, this is precisely what gives them the somewhat harsher ride. But man... they are great for peace of mind... I got home today and after inspecting the new tires, I pulled one thorn out of my back wheel and Four thorns out of the front one. The tires never went flat. Just one of these thorns would have flatten the old stock Mondos.
