Bicycle Mechanics - Does anyone make 26" canties that will fit 700c wheels?

I have late eighties Kuwahara parkway MTB bike that I'm planning to build up at my commuter, the frame seems to be made to accept 26" or 700c wheels, but the canti mounts are for 26" wheels, it has mounts for strait pull brakes up top and down low, but I would much rather have canties for the Washington rainy season.

Does anyone make canti or V-brakes that will adjust to fit 700c wheels?

I would just cut the canti-mounts off and re-braze it in the proper location for 700c wheels.

I was afraid you would say that, at $125 a pop, it might be a better Idea (cheaper) to have disc mounts brazed on the back, I still need to purchase a Fork (any ideas its 1"). I was planing to have the frame blasted and coated with truck bed liner anyway (I slid and dropped 3 times last winter in the rain, and would like something that will hold up ). also additional stopping power would be appreciated, Also I still need to build wheels for this bike, disc brakes isn't out of the question.

Any suggestions?

A friend installed the these Mavic adaptors (http://www.mavic.com/mtb/products/caliper-brake-adjuster.323944.3.aspx) doing the same conversion you have in mind and is very happy with them. They mount on your existing 26" wheel bosses, and have new bosses at the right height for 700c. You use whatever brakes you like.

Ive got a cantilever brake thats a similar design to that Paul brake. But had a price of £10 on it. so was a tenth the price. I got it in a box of 54 pairs of new Jagwire brake pads from Ebay for £7 :)

I would suggest you could make a couple of short metal plates and drill 2 holes in. Bolt one end to the brake and the other to the pad. So the pad is above the slot.
Like a brake drop bolt as used by Sheldon Brown and others on old Raleighs.
Might be tricky to use Vs on low brake studs with a larger diameter tyre and mudguards.
But Cantis would just need a longer straddle wire.

I guess there really aren't any good options here, the Mavic adapter is looking good execpt the max tire size is only 25, I was hoping for a bit bigger. I think I might just try to fashion something, discs would be to much money into a 20 year old MTB frame with weird geometry, if I find that I love it maybe discs... but I move alot and like to keep things easily sellable.

I don't know about that. My friend is using it with 42mm tires. If there's a max width listed it might be the rim width, ( brake shoe clearance) not the tire width.

I know of at least one bike equipped with those adaptors and wider, hybrid tires.

Xtracycle carries one. They don't spec a tire size but would be worth a call/email
