Classic & Vintage - Schwinn Paramount -- how much should I pay?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am looking for a Schwinn Paramount frame, ideally from the mid '70s (love those chromed lugs!) to build a really cool fixed gear bike. How much should I be willing to pay for just the frame and fork?

I bought a Paramount this summer from some folk's that
insisted that is was JUST an ordinary Schwinn. Try as I might
they would not believe it was a Premium model so I gave them
the $35 they ask and left Paramont in hand. Yes, I did feel
a bit guilty because I know that $300 or more is often the
norm for this bike.

Wow. You are a lucky fella. I am keeping my eyes peeled on ebay, but the good frames are running $500 plus. ouch!

What about paramounts that dont have the nifty chrome lugs. Are they just as good? I saw one the other day that I can snag for cheap.

There is a guy selling an all black Paramont Track with track bars (more curved than normal road bars. just wanted to specify since im not so good with parts and their names) for $200. It seemed to be in good shape but probably needs new rims at a min. it was twice the weight of a new khs or pista.
if anyone is looking for this bike here a link for his ad. He is in chicago.

revision--when i checked it out i was thinking it would be a converted road bike by panasonic (as listed in the ad). Once i got there, he said it was a paramont and it had horizontal drop out and track geometry. It was painted all black so couldnt tell the model or make.

FYI, I have an early 70's Paramount track bike that someone offered me $600.00.

If it is in good shape, I certainly believe you! Paramounts have a dedicated cult-like following, as do Peugeot PX-10s.
