In!
For those of you in the Dallas area - it's worth the trip down to the AA Center / Victory Park.
- American crit riders are the best in the world, and all the big names are going to be here
- Several beer tents will be set up
- It's for a good cause - Children's Medical Center
- World class bike racing, under the lights, at a super cool venue, with local TV coverage! Come on down and make some noise!

ask the Euro's - they readily concede that nobody races crits faster than the Americans.

[Edit] Not to be a jerk, it sounds a great event and for a great cause, but

By what standard are American crit riders the best in the world?

Because we have the "The Bomb" and "Democracy". If people don't like us we will bomb them with democracy

Regardless of who is better it is going to be tons of fun. I plan on making it Thursday night, not sure about Sunday.

Fomerbrit - come on out to the races, I'll buy you a watered-down American beer and we can debate!

I'd love ot be able to compete. I've raced some outlaw crits in CA with current/ex pros and cat 1-2s and they were fun fun fun.

I've developed a fondness for Shiner Bock personally :) Hardly watered down that!

Not sure if I can make it, need to check the kid's schedules you know!

Cheers!

How is the parking? Did they open up the AAC lots?

If I remember right, I stopped on the way home from work, and did use the AAC lot- might have had to pay $5 or something. The main spectator place was down on the opposite end of the course, I was up on the AAC-parking lot end, although I did make the loop by the time I was done.

Photo hint: Good light during practice and at the start, dark shortly afterwards.

(Feeling stupid :( )

don't be, they didn't do much of a job making info accessible
I know about six people who got bummed for a sec because they missed it because they though it was on the 11th (all that was found was last years info)

there's a link, you'd think they'd have the sense to make it the first only temporarily clickable banner image rather than the third

The Katy Trail dead ends on the course. Ride your bike down from somewhere else. The Katy Trail is lighted at night. Plenty of room to roam around on your bike next to the course. DART opened the green line yesterday which now services Victory and the stop is less than 100 yards from the course.

It was interesting last year. Not really crowded at all.

We were going to attend the RBM group riding workshop, but have decided to take a trip to Victory Plaza and catch the races.

Sounds like lots of fun, and I seriously doubt that there will be much of a crowd...

Pretty good crowd but really spread out except for the pit area. Last year I was able to ride around the course without dabbing on any of the sidewalks. Maybe 1000 people there last year?

With the weather supposed to be T-storms this evening, will they still race?

A couple of laps after I took the above pic of him, I yelled "Go Floyd!" as he passed by. He surely wasn't expecting it, because he sat up and looked in my direction.

He spent most of the early part of the race in the back of the pack, but worked up as high as 5th towards the end. During the final 5-6 laps or so, he'd dropped to the back of the pack again.

I was impressed with how well it seemed to be organized.

Well, it rained before the race. They started about 20 or 30 minutes late, I assume letting things dry out a bit. I never could pick Landis out of the crowd myself. Had to get home and look up what he looked like.

I really wanted to be there, but the wife was afraid of the weather, so we went to an RBM seminar on group riding (which did not really cover any new material, but was interesting none the less).
WFAA will be braodcasting the crits tomorrow at 6PM...

I missed it. Work! :(

Thanks for the pics of the race and Flandis. It's good to see him back and great to see him take time out for the kids and fans like that. I still think he's a class act - and we former Pennsylvanians need to stick together :)
