Starting about 5 weeks ago I got on a bike for the first time in 20 years after I purchased a Jamis Explorer 3.0. I'm really enjoying the experience even though my level of fitness only allows me to do about 6.5 miles in about 30 minutes before needing a short rest and it's fun to see how my endurance improves each time I go out.
Now on to my question after a little more babbling...
I'm comfortable on my bike for the most part but I notice that with jogging shoes on I tend to settle with the middle of my foot on the pedal rather than the ball of my foot. When I 'force myself' to pedal with the proper part of my foot I notice a big difference in power but I find it hard to keep it there. If I scoot back on my seat it's easier but I find it less comfortable since my seat widens at the back and I normally like to perch on it towards the front.
I was fitted by my LBS but I'm not sure that they paid to much attention to my foot position. While I'm not sure there is an easy answer to these types of questions would moving the seat backward be likely to help?
