Other than FSA, who makes decent rings for a Shimano drive train - some combo of 34-36/42-44-46 would be fine.

I know about TA rings, but IIRC they are not ramped and pinned. Maybe I'm wrong on that front.


(And why doesn't Shimano make their own - seems like a lot of CX bikes are running Shimano.)

Do you have a 110 BCD "Compact" crankset or a 130 BCD standard road crank?

looking at picking up used 110 bcd Ultegra SL

I'd go with FSA with a MegaExo BB, but there seems to be a lot of complaints out there about their product.

One of the complaints on FSA is the creaking. The creaking on my gossamer crank went away after greasing the splines and properly torquing the pinch bolts. It started creaking at 300 miles, fixed and has been good for almost 1000 now.

The Shimano option is problematic, since Shimano does not provide the usual 46 & 36T combination, and they do not offer these rings.

Be sure that the big ring is pinned & ramped. This is needed for STI shifter systems.

what's wrong with fsa chainrings?

the thorne chainrings are usa made and are ramped and pinned. they carry 110 bcd ta ones as well that are designed for a double chainring setup. they're not ramped and pinned, but have "a special profile" to help with shifting... the 130 and 135 ta's are ramped and pinned though.
