Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm into cars, and I have a deep-seated obsession with Mazda RX-7s and anything Wankel related. I have a 1990 Turbo II and a 1989 GXL that I'm building up as a >$1000 autocross beater (and GRM contender). My daily driver is a 2001 Honda Prelude that is a great car to drive, albeit lacking in room for the bicycle. :)

Very sweet Jag. I've always been a fan of the hardtop body. Sexy lines. Of course, you know whay the Brits like their beer warm, right? Because their fridges are made by Lucas!
The Vintage Grand Prix was in town this past weekend (Pittsburgh). Highlight of the cars displayed on the lawn was the new Porsche GT2. So much horsepower, so little time...Rain delayed the srat of the racing, so I didn't get to see the old Lotus' and Caterhams trade paint.
Oh, and the SRT-4, what a rocket that thing must be. Two years ago at Sea Otter I got a ticket from SRAM to ride hot laps in the Skip Barber Neons. 2.0 Magnum engines, four wheel drifts in the turns, the famous off camber hairpin.
Okay, one last thought while the coffee is still kicking in. Got to open up my girlfriend's Volvo T5 wagon Sunday. What a sleeper! Smoked a big V-8 Detroit iron off the line. She was goading me to gun it, hey, what's a guy to do?

Haha yeah, big Volvo's, invisible low flying jets.
Very nice looking E-Type. Saw one the other day. Anyone else find riding country roads a great place to find fast cars? :) Had 911's, Cayennes, Ferraris... fly past me. What better way to hear them.
Being 17 I'm learning to drive in a 1.1L fiesta, nothing exciting but I have plans for cars in later life :D
Yep, another car fanatic here. I have an '02 Honda S2000 which I auto-x with SCCA (Finger Lakes Region) Of course I've only made it to one event this season!!
Nice Jag!! And SRT-4, best bang for the buck available today.

No YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!
I drive a 97 Prelude and I drive with my bicycle in the car everyday!!!!! I was amazed too.
Just put your back seat down. Dismount your front wheel and seat post. Putting in the bike takes a bit of skill, but generally a lot easier than I thought.
Cus your rear wheel will be going in first, you will still have lot's of room left for your grocery in the trunk.

Actually, that's exactly how I fit my bike in the car. It's a snug fit, but really not all that bad. However, I'm still mad at myself for scratching the bumper with the fork last week, but it was bound to happen eventually.
BTW...does your car use a slight bit of oil? Mine uses about 1/2 quart every 1000 miles, and that's with a decent amount of "spirited" driving. Rumour has it that the H22 VTEC Prelude engines use oil slightly, with consumption going up if one gets into the VTEC crossover point with more regularity.

used to have a few nice ones.
81 buick regal sleeper, non turbo 280hp 3.8l, sold it when I moved to cali.
93 mustang lx hatch modified. weight shaved 200hp 2.3l, got crashed. Car's hatch was not usable dur to weight shaving..overall i would say about 300-400 lbs was removed from that car, but I kept it looking as lcose to stock as i could. If I never wrecked it, I would have had to sell it when I moved to cali...since it was no longer computerized and had twin weber carbs instead of fuel injection...it was also converted to DOHC.
87 grand marquis wagon, sleeper. Supercharged 5.0l HO. sold it when I wanted to buy the mustang. That was a fun car...0-60 6 seconds, 0-100 in 11...also screamed "I'm borrowin my grampaw's car!"...which made it all the more funny :)

Sorry I can't really tell, because the last time I had an oil change, the mechanic actually forgot to tighten the bolts!! I realised it only a few weeks later when I was changing the spark plugs. So some oil has already leaked.
I'm not too good with car mechanics actually. That was actually the first time I am doing a tune up by myself with my friend's help. Hope I get involved more later.

If you have oil coming out of your sparkplug holes you have some more serious issues than a oil changer forgetting to tighten up something. The only parts he would loosen or remove would be the drain bolt(In the oil pan) and the filter(replaced, on the block)
A half quart every 1000 is not excessive. My turbocharged mini van (Never run a beat looking Plymouth minivan for pinks in Raleigh NC :) ), uses a quart every 500 miles under lots of boost. That is excessive, but it also has 195,000 miles on it. My Scirocco uses about a half quart every 500 miles with 118,000+ on the block. As it sees redline pretty regular I can live with it. '96 850 Volvo, 104,000 miles, driven pretty hard, 0 (yes zero) oil usage.

I'd rather not think about the ones I've sold and should have kept...
Alas, life has altered priorities and vehicle selections to more closely relate to lifestyle "as is" instead of "was" or "would if I could", e.g., instead of a hot car I now have resigned myself to a Z71 Suburban for hauling grandkids, multiple road and off-road tandems, bicycles, home improvement "stuff", and what-not. Of course, it does have a "chip" in it so I guess I'm not fully resigned.
However, since we all must have our outlets, this is the way I get my horsepower fix, albeit calmly and carefully riding to and from work most days....

Gus, how long have you had that car? Did you do the work? It looks so smooth in the pictures, a beautiful finish. (My rocco looks much worse in person but still goes like stink :) ) Have you seen the GRM from a few months ago? They put a 911 and a Jag E convt. up against a Honda Minivan. The van won, but the cars still have more personality.

I've owned it since around 1991. I'm the second owner...the original is my father, who called me up one day and informed me he had too many cars and I needed to come out and get the Jag. At the time I lived near the Atlantic coast in Virginia and he lived on the Pacific coast in California.
The car is not restored. Except for the paint it is original. A well taken care of machine, and sometimes like a thorobred horse, a real pain in the .... backside. It will still red line and go faster than I care to go. After about 100 mph the speed really kicks in hard up to around 140...I don't think it will go much faster than that and I don't think I'll ever try to make it so...I can't afford to fall off the road with it.

This is my dads car, a 1963 Lotus Elan, still got original engine as can be visable in one of the pics. My dog thought that the ride is scary. Apparently he was cowering and lying accross the the console and clawing my dad on his first ride. Now the dog likes going for rides, but gets bored and goes asleep accross the console.
My dad also has a VW R32

 Holey Moley! Are you joking? You must live next door to that big-jawed guy on late-night TV (Can't think of his name) He has a lot of exotic collector cars.
I love cars  .....Over my lifetime I've had quite a series of sports cars & VWs.....most of them at that stage of their career that no sane person would think of buying them, but they were all I couldn't afford... My wife: "Are you crazy? We can't afford that pile of junk!" Mr. Toad: "But Hon, it's a 54 MG-TF 1250! Look at those classic lines & proportions....& it's bright red, too!"
Currently, in my dotage, I have a 2003 Mini Cooper S....puts all my previous cars in the shade (except maybe for that 54 MG.....Oh, how I wish I had that car now & the mechanic to keep it running). When I run my Cooper on the little-traveled hill-town roads of Western Mass & Vermont, it's almost as much fun as my bike! :D

My dad's mate collects mini Coopers. At the moment he has 2 New Coopers, 1 new Cooper S, a 1963 Racing mini (that thing is fun to drive, lots of power and no weight) and about 20 other mini's varying in years. to date he has had over 200 cars.
Did I mention he also has a WW2 Armoured Personel Carrier? It has a turret and a gun which has been de-mechanised by the Australian Army. It is so fun to be driven around in, the cat-tracks let it go over anything.

I have a mean 98 XJ (jeep cherokee). I'm building up a 4.6L stroker for it that should go in, in the spring. My current obsession is the STi, which if you have 30K why buy anything else!
There is NO better SUV than a jeep, they are cheap, run forever and you can wheel with them!!
I was looking into bikes a while ago, and all the racers i talked to said SV650 as a first bike. Its nice to race (if you end up doing that) and it plenty fast to get you killed.
Living in NYC i have no use for a car, but when i was a kid my old man had a 1967 Intermeccanica Torino convertible:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.intermeccanica.org/vehicles/italia/italiagallery/italiaharbor_small.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.intermeccanica.org/vehicles/italia/italiagallery/gallery.htm&h=65&w=100&sz=2&tbnid=PMhZbu7xYdAJ:&tbnh=50&tbnw=76&start=22&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dintermeccanica%2Btorino%26start%3D20%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN
Long story short, they only made ~90 of the Torino and were forced to change names and powerplants the next year, his had a Ford 289, chassis #50008. If i had been older than 12 when he sold it, i might have killed him. As it was, he waited until my brother was shipped out to Japan for two years, and didn't tell him until he came home.
Now he has one of these: http://www.edmunds.com/used/1995/mercedesbenz/slclass/3232/prices.html?tid=edmunds.u.mipmake.pricetable.num3.1.mercedesbenz*
i have dibs on that one when he kicks the bucket :)

Probally a bad argument when your around other performance car enthusiast. The STi is bad ass and would probally be won over more so with people who really don't know much about cars.
If anyone's interested, I've done a few 'car chops' (photo-manipulations of cars) and you can see them at http://www.naputi.com/gallery_c.html

My dream automobile is a 32 Highboy. I would love ot restore one. Till then I will stick to my 2001 Mazda B2500. I wish I had pix of my old truck, it was a 81 F-150. She was the very embodiment of a sleeper. Beatup exterior, with those white wagon wheels. Under the hood, a 302 with internals from a Mustang 5.0. I had to get bigger valve covers to fit the roller rockers. Had an A6 tranny with a 4:10 dif. I had kept that thing running so clean, that she passed emissions every year ( oh yeah I forgot to mention she had no caty)
