Hi,

Before I super-dooper tighten the hell out of my friend's bottom bracket, please help me confirm that it is italian threading which means both cups are righty-tightey lefty-loosey.

The frame is a 1988 Bianchi Limited Campione Del Mondo frame with Columbus tubing. The serial number is 6G 20862. In general is there any way to tell threading by just looking at any of the visible parts of the BB when it is installed?

many thanks,
mb

Hello the threading should be marked on the cups. Italian36x24F right hand fixed. 1,37x24 english left hand fixed

are you sure that is an '88 limited? my catalog shows the '88 as being Tange (asian) with 600 Ultegra tricolor and should there fore be english bb

do you have any pics? what color is it?

the '87 also had the older silver 600 and could be english as well.

It's my friend's bike, he was sending me the specs via e-mail and he is not a bike geek so he could be off in his year but everything else he would have read off the frame as it showed up. It does have all 600 parts including a really nice headset for which I've had to buy special tools (kind of a rounded star patern instead of the usual flats). Thanks for the threading info differences, I'll commit those to memory. Much appreciated.

I gave a G-6 Limited , with Shimano 600, My BB is Italian, you BB shell should be 70mm or slightly less due to facing. If it measures 68 it should be English. Some Limited frames actually came from Italy, mine has Columbus tubing.

Have your friend read what is engraved on both bottom bracket cups. If it says 36x24tpi it's Italian. If it says 1.37x24tpi it's English.
