Bicycle Mechanics - Need Help trying to figure out how to remove these

So... I found this frame in a dumpster and am going to rebuild it to a single speed.
But, I need to remove the cranks and bottom bracket.
Anyone know how to remove these?

The bike is a cannondale r700? these are dura ace cranks.
both side are like this...and i think its a square taper bb.
where do i start?

start by removing the dust cap, you need something to fit into those two holes ( a pin spanner is the right word). I bent a fork (eating, not bicycle), but I'm sure there is a right tool for the job.

Once the dust cap is out, you need to buy a crank puller (http://www.parktool.com/products/detail.asp?cat=26&item=CCP%2D22), nothing else will do.

screw the part of the crank puller that looks like a nut firmly into the threads in the crank, then screw the arm/lever/bolt part of the crank puller into the nut. with a few good twists it should pop right off.

repeat on other side.

Now where do you like that somebody throws a frame like that into a dumpster?

As long as the dustcaps aren't on there too good, needlenose pliers sometimes work to get them off without too much mangling.

Don't forget to remove the crank bolt/nut after the dustcap bit and before the crankpuller bit...

Those dust caps are on there pretty good....

I am actually trying to trade to get going on a single speed.
I need a 16 tooth freewheel with spacer kit, chain tensioner and single ring crankset.

Why not just use those cranks for your SS project? They look like they would work just fine and you could easily save yourself some coin by reusing them and spend the money on a nicer set of wheels.

Just take off the big ring, unless you must have a track specific crankset. No need to remove the cranks, or the pedals for that matter. You will need to buy some shorter bmx/track bolts if you go that route.

I have to take it all off because it is going to be powder coated tomorrow.

Sounds like you do not belive him. I found a 1986 Miata ninetwelve, almost mint in a dumpster. Watched the guy throwing it in. Almost did not hit the bottom before I had pulled it out of there again. All Shimano 6oo.

And do not let them sand or blast on the frame much. Cannondales are VERY thin wall tubing.

Already had it checked over. its fine. plus the powder coating is $45 so even if I didnt have my guy check it I wasnt that worried.

your 100% right! I pulled up to unload some tree limbs and crap from my lawn and watched the guy throw it in the dumpster along with some old rusty wheels and stuff.... she was calling me!

P.S. OP, I hate you. ( :)just jealous )

no sweat cold feet. stopped by a friends shop and had him pull the bb and cranks. he told me that I will need to replace the fork.
