I was riding my 60 year old Norman into Princeton to do a little shopping on Saturday when, riding down Lovers Lane, I saw a policeman standing at the side of the road. I took little notice of him until as I was riding by and he yelled at me "come on, come on, you can do better than that!" At this point I saw he was holding a radar gun. I looked down and saw I was going 18 mph.

"Sorry, didn't know you were clocking me!" I yelled. Then I went down to the corner, turned around, and sped up. As I approached I yelled again "try me now!" After I passed him, I turned around again and went to talk to him.

He said I was going 24.8 mph (confirming what my computer said) but I said I was disappointed I wasn't speeding, my kids would have been impressed if I got ticketed.

But the officer told me the speed limit in town is 25 mph for motorized vehicles; if you're not motorized, there's no speed limit. So he has never ticketed a bicycle and, he says, never will. So... cruise down Nassau at 35 mph? Whatever, there's no speeding in Princeton.

At any rate, I thought it was pretty cool.

Is this a 3-speed? If so that's pretty impressive that you can get it up to 24.8 mph. I don't think I ever did more than 15-16 mph on my old 3-speed.
