Every place I've worked, people celebrate every occasion imaginable with cake, cookies, and other sweet stuff. Since I am by far the most active person, people assume I like this stuff and they really push it on me.
However, I don't like to eat sweet stuff. I've never bought cake, pie, cookies, sweet rolls, etc in my life. I have never bought sugar except for beer brewing and wine making. I have a bizarre weakness for DQ's peanut buster parfait, but I definitely average less than one per year.
Am I that far from the norm? Whether or not I am, what's the draw of this stuff? It rots your teeth, causes a boost followed by a crash, and coats the inside of your mouth. It doesn't even taste interesting.

I love all that stuff...cookies, pies, cake...you name it...I just hardly ever eat it b/c the devil makes it therefore it's evily addictive...you can't eat just one!!!
and I highly doubt evily is a word, but I'm going to make it one now
I love good pies and cakes. I will not waste the effort and calories on packaged stuff or on grocery store baked goods. But a homemade cake or pie (especially with fresh fruit) is to die for. I love to bake the stuff, but rarely do since they usually need to come with a bypass.
CAKEY CAKE! I'll have some ice cream too!
*does cupcake dance*
Yes you're far from the norm.:)I don't know of anybody who would turn down cake. It really has to be fresh cake, I don't want that stuff that was sitting on the shelf! Also, I'll never bring cakes or cookies. My job is eat cake, not bring it!

I'm one of those that bring it. I love to bake - and also eat. But alas, I do not need to eat it all, so I inflict it on coworkers/teammates etc.

It's not that I dislike cake, I just think most cake sucks. There are a few exceptions... One of my customer's baked this for me on a recent visit...

I'd stand in a DMV line for a piece of cake. I love cake.

I like cake a lot. Why do you think I ride a bicycle?
I'm a sucker for DQ ice cream cake. That stuff in the middle is a little crunchy, artery-clogging treat.

IMHO Pie>Cake
But cheescake...well, that's a whole different ballgame.
Cake or death?Cake, please!
I have this good friend of mine who says that he doesn't like sweets. Then, we have him and his wife over for dinner, I will usually make a cake, or a pie, or some good desert (an excuse to bake). He always goes back for seconds!

When presented with a decadent dessert, my standard response is "After a dinner that good, the last thing I want to do is wash the taste of it out of my mouth with anything." It works 100% of the time in restaurants, and I mean it when I say it.
Being a guest at someone's house is another matter entirely. I always appreciate the effort people have undertaken to welcome me, so I will find a way to enjoy anything that is served.

I like cake and other sweets, but I never buy them or make them and rarely partake in the office weekly donut.

I much prefer sweet foods to salty/savory. My daughter, on the other hand, can pass up cake with no problem. Even as a small child she would pass up cake at birthday parties. I'd never seen a kid do that before.
I haz a sweet tooth. I like cakes, muffins and sweet food. I also like savoury foods. without cycling I'd be the size of the Goodyear blimp.:o

I'll take pie over cake. Know why? Because I know I'd prefer cake, whereas pie usually has more nutritional value. I prefer pumpkin pie. Know why? Because I actually prefer apple, peach or blueberry pie, whereas pumpkin pie is usually more nutritious. Knowledge sucks sometimes.

You are deceiving yourself there. Yes, there probably is more "nutritional value" in the forms of vitamins, but calorically, they both suck. A properly made pie dough is flour and monounsaturated fat. At least cakes have some eggs. The pie filling is either; fruit, sugar, tapioca and butter--or some kind of custard (like pecan pie or pumpkin pie) which is basically eggs sugar and flavoring(pecans/pumpkin etc.)
If you are going to eat the crap (WHICH I LOVE TO DO!)--at least know what you are eating!

The best way to get me to come to an event is to say the magic words....
"There will be cake." Of course, rhubarb pie would be nirvana..........

I read some time in the 90's that the food of choice among Silicon Valley whiz kid computer programmers when pulling an all-nighter was pumpkin pie. The article mentioned pumpkin pie as usually containing less "filler" ingredients. Pumpkin is also one of the most nutrient packed foods per volume.
Back in the day, I used to see them at Old Ironsides for a $2 cover.

It depends I am very picky. My mom's chocolate cake with vanilla icing is the best ever. Most people that try ir agree.
There are few that rival her baking skill, my co-worker's cakes are about the only cake that has come close.
Most other cakes I could just leave. I usually will not touch a cake from the bakery.

i don't normally eat sweet stuff - cakes, donuts, candy, etc and when i do, it makes me feel pretty dang sick. so, usually, when people bring stuff like that in, i'll get something, go back to my cube, take a bite (maybe) and throw the rest away.
lots of times, people will bring Dunkin' Donuts. a BIG :wtf: this is the South people!!! it's Krispy Kreme. that's actually good, because i will not eat DD. :)
