Saw this in the newspaper today. The Dutch prime minister visits the disaster area in Enschede (a whole warehouse of fireworks exploded and caused many injuries and killed people about a year ago.
You probably won't read Dutch but there's a large pic

There aren't many prime ministers that will do an official visit by bicycle.. apparently it was the most practical way.. Kok is a very practical person. (former minister of Finance)

Cheers

The Governor of New Mexice is (or was, don't know if he is still Governor) a cyclist, and always participated in the Santa Fe Century, among other things.

Our latest regime here in Colorado acts as if bicycles belong on the sidewalks or in the garage. They turn a deaf ear to everything, it seems.

Any other bicycling public officials out there?

I believe that QLD premier Peter Beattie recently bought a bike of some description. I can't imagine John Howard (he wouldn't reach the pedals) or Kim Beazley (wouldn't get far without a coronary) riding too far tho.

Maybe one of us could win public office.

Would anyone vote for me and my big mouth as sole world dictator?

Not sure whether it is related, but the same prime minister is now in bed because of the flu..

The mayor of our city is a cyclist, although I havn't seen that translated into any particular benefits for us here. He rode in the Habitat for Humanity ride a couple of years ago, I forget the route, but it is usually over the course of a week.
