General Cycling Discussion - Bike shed finally up and running.

Here is my new bike shed under construction, my camera's fritz so no finished shots yet.
I hope I'll be able to get all three in there and work on them at the same time.
The copper roofed ceder-sided building on the right is the edge of my neighbors new house.

You sure those doors are going to be big enough to get your bikes in and out easily? Oh, I know, you've cunningly solved the problem of driving into the garage with bikes on your roof rack. Good idea!

you gonna make one o them tall bikes or something? and why is a cement truck INSIDE the shed? souldn't the foundation already be poured or are you keeping that in there too? :eek:

The foundation is all done, the truck is there to pour six inches of extra high strength fiberglass reenforced concrete into the 6"x6" wire grid, to make what is now an epoxy coated slab. There is a second truck just showing up to finish but its not in the pic.

There is plenty of light also 17 two bulb 8-foot florescent fixtures hooked to my self installed(went to school for it) 200amp 240volt subpanel(thats 48,000 watts), fed off of my new class-320 400 amp meterbase(also by me, inspector thought my work to be quite exellent) which I desided should be feeding the premises from underground rather than overhead, the way it used to. Tele and cable both went below while I was at it, and the shed got the old communication hookup too. Water and sewer of course so I can take a shower after a wet ride without buggering up the house. The large power is for the ability to weld under full lights, with the stereo on, the hot water tank heating and somone can still use a computer without large voltage drops harming the computer or other electronics.

As for the doors they match the building and the high ceiling is for um uh ladder storage yea I need to store my orchard ladder because its... not supposed to be laid on its side,... YEA THATS THE TICKET. And it saves space by putting the hot water tank on top of the bathroom. Really why not have huge doors, I should get a picture of the crazy house my neighbor built during this same time, my doors will seem less nutty.

Oh and that time of year thats as clear as the sky gets. All ditches turned into muck holes of despair as the clay and rock danced with the rain.

When one of the ladies in our club had a new garage built, she had a floor drain put in so she could wash her bike in the winter. Just a thought. Now the important question, do you have enough bikes to fill the shed? Or is it the Field of Dreams, "Build it and they will come?"

I would have had concrete pillars poured and put a portable observatory on top with perhaps a 16" scope. How's the night sky?

[EDIT] The night sky is same as day sky, cloudy in winter fall spring; night /day are clear june, through half of sept. but only 8 hours of darkness then and its got moderate light polution.

It has a sloped floor so it will drain out the big doors however it seems more logical to wash it in the rain then dry it inside, if i'm skeard of getting rained on I could stand under the eve as it gives a fair size shelter but if I need to wash it when its raining I probably just road in the rain thus don't care if I get wet. Also it rarly pours around here, it just drizzles most of the winter.

Three bicycles three motorcyles a bunch of tools for them a large efficiant wood stove a bathroom and plenty of room to work on two at a time without crowding or rearanging everything when I need to do something. And if a four wheeled rig busts I can work out of the rain, but I don't use four wheels much so the don't break to often.

I was going to put a second story on it (8foot ceiling not 13' 6" like the bottom) for an office/guest room but the money said no after complying with the city engineer's extra junk. He's a completely incompetent dope, there were things he called for that were in no way required by the building codes but it was cheeper to comply than to hire an attorny. According to a friend in city maintence this dope has designed stuff for the city that required water to run uphill :eek: .
